U.S. forces in western Iraq were targeted in another drone attack early Tuesday morning, according to a report, marking the latest in a string of assaults on American troops in the Middle East as the Israel-Hamas war continues.
Two armed drones were used against Iraq’s Ain al-Asad airbase, Reuters reported, citing a security source and a government source. The base hosts international troops that assist Iraq in defeating a terror group called the Daesh, or the Islamic State. No casualties or damage were reported.

Biden will taunt them a second time.
The details are few, but al Asad is around 200 miles from Syria.
bttt
Get them out of there ASAP.
The Iraqi parliament has already asked us to leave. If regional war breaks out that US base will come under even heavier attacks and Iraq itself will join the coalition of Muslim countries. The US will have no more Arab allies in the region. Even the Saudis are likely to distance themselves from us. I don’t think people realize what a can of worms we’ve opened up.
Iraq, twice, Somalia, Lebanon, and Afghanistan are more than enough.
Never again.
Harris: "Don't"
Blinken: "Don't"
We have mental defectives in charge.
It's like they get a brain freeze and can't complete the sentence...Don't WHAT??
Remind us how many times our bases in Iraq were attacked during Trumps presidency….
Saddam was certainly no angel, but he did keep the Iranians in check thus keeping the Middle East somewhat stable. The fake WMD’s changed all that which led to Saddam’s demise along with the demise of the Middle East stability. What evolved is what we have today, the beginnings of WWIII.
Saddam was an ally of ours, of sorts. Early democrat administrations acknowledged the need to have allies that are not perfect. Harry Truman is an example. Speaking of brutal Nicaraguan dictator Somoza, Harry Truman is supposed to have said “He’s a bastard, but he’s our bastard.”
That type of foreign policy went out the door in the 1960’s.
SURELY the US is working on a DRONE SHIELD. It shouldn’t be that hard.
Hey, Biden will put the fear of God in them ... as soon as he gets back from latest vacation ... and ice cream break
Oh boy…that could be a problem for the Embassy compound if the drones can fly under C-RAM’s radar. As if they should be stuck on that compound in that low grade war zone in the first place.
US ground forces have a wide range of anti-UAV tools.
For instance, the Army/DoD has adapted the 30mm chain gun from the Apache helicopter for ground and wheeled vehicle mounts. It has a longer barrel and improved anti-jam features plus ‘special’ optics and sensors for tracking, identification an targeting. Can be mounted on a M998Humvee using the CROWS (the remote mount on the roof controlled by a soldier or Marine inside using a ‘nintendo’ console.) Can also be mounted on an F-250, creating an anti-drone ‘technical.’ The M998 mount can also me loaded with HellFires for those who need the very best ;-)
The special sauce of this tweaked 30mm gun is the proximity-fused munition. The shell detonates when close/close enough to the ‘drone’ to disable or destroy it. Works REALLY well - saw it tested live.
ALSO some forces are fielding a shoulder-held ‘EMP’ gun that is aimed at a visible target, debilitating it with directed energy of the right wavelengths. Looks like a Stinger had a baby with several enclosed small Yagi antennae.
Lastly there are longer range anti-air small-theatre missile systems that can take out the higher fliers.
The US military is *DEEP* into using a WIDE range of UAVs and we understand the technology and the missions quite well. We also know how to kill them...
Smacking a couple warehouses didn’t seem to get the message across. Gee, who’d have thunk it? /s
Also the US Navy has signed off on a 30 kW laser-based system that’ll kill targets ranging from drones to patrol craft.
Deployed on a couple ships in the Persian Gulf. Tested there as well on the Ponce - To make sure the ‘bad guys’ knew it was actually a thing.
Takes a LOT of power (go figure) so ships make sense.
A true anti-materiel death ray.
No good reason to be there. Bring them home. Put them on our border.
Counter battery systems weren’t really built/engineered for this mission. They work really well for the core mission, as you likely know, enabling counter-battery fire missions reportedly before the bad guys fire their second round. Those CRAM systems (like Iron Dome) intend to kill inbound munitions on impact or proximity detonation kill. (again, not news to you.)
The planar antennae are capable of the mission *IF* the UAV is at altitude, similar to a mortar shell, rocket, or artillery round (unlikely from Hamas) but the software and the RF has to be tweaked ($$$) to get targeting data to the systems that kill the targets. Also ROE for UAVs often require visual ID/confirmation, so ... ya don’t need that for incoming ballistic projectiles - they ARE foe. Point being US forces are fielding new weapons systems ($$$$) to combat what we call ‘drones.’
