Occidental Petroleum quietly sold off a carbon capture facility – the world’s largest — that was built into a natural gas processing plant in Texas, according to a Bloomberg Green investigation.
The plant, called Century, never operated at more than a third of its capacity since it was built in 2010.
According to statements the company made to Bloomberg Green, the technology worked, and the facility continues to operate as designed.
The economics of Century weren’t good because of limited amounts of natural gas coming from a nearby field, according to the report, and as a result, the plant fell into disuse before its divestment. It was sold off for a fraction of the cost to build it.
Total carbon capture capacity globally is approximately 45 million tons of carbon dioxide per year, which is about 4% of what’s needed to be operational by 2030 in order to reach the International Energy Agency’s net zero targets by 2050.
Occidental is one of the biggest investors in carbon capture and storage. It operates a billion-dollar complex called Stratos about 100 miles from Century. The Stratos facility uses direct air capture, which sucks carbon dioxide from the air to be stored underground. The company intends to build 100 plants just like it, Bloomberg Green reports.
It seems odd that PhD scientists don’t know what I learned in 7th grade.
Same goes for Doctors and flu and coronaviruses.
Almost as if they know, but have a nefarious purpose…
I thought that was Brawndo?
Either the natural gas or the tax credits are gone. NMo other reason to let it go. 99 more planned? Not without tax credits being good enough. The return on this is just not fast enough without them.
Is the “Thirst Quencher!” carbonated?
Won't Mother Earf explode? Seriously, what do they plan to do with all of this stored CO²?
Awwww, that’s too bad. I really like that stuff in beer.
Maybe they finally figured out that all that CO2 from coal and petroleum, was once in the atmosphere, millions of years ago................
You need to know the present 440 PPM of dissolved CO2 in the atmosphere is not a crises, in fact it is almost a climatic nadir. When CO2 rises animals get bigger, plants flourish and life abounds. We are lucky it is not going the other way.
But why don’t they power it like electric cars with rainbows and unicorn farts?
“The captured carbon dioxide was used to make skittles to feed to the unicorns so they can fart more skittles. Perpetual motion.”

Speaking of Skittles, ever notice in the Skittles commercial where the man is “milking” the giraffe and Skittles are going into the bucket and then he eats some and laughs, that the giraffe being milked is a male giraffe?
Only about 5% of the total CO2 in the atmosphere is man made. So attempting to remove 20 PPM of CO2 will do absolutely nothing for the planet.
Study up on IRS document 45Q. The latest in carbon capture financial bounty.
Then consider a couple of companies attempting to build a high pressure carbon capture pipelines in five mid-Western States using immanent domain as a means of obtaining the land needed for the pipeline.
The producers of corn ethanol and farmers growing the corn are promised insane profit from the sceme which in reality is more green chit brought to you by your own damn government.
In addition, so called sustainable aviation fuel is also a large part of the effort (scam).
Frankly no, I didn't notice.
As long as the CO2 is pumped underground to frack more shale oil, I’m good.
I think OP finally figured that out.................
I have some built in carbon capture where I live as well. They’re called trees and plants.
EMPTYING YOUR WALLET.
Another Obama success story along with Solyndra.
Really how can you tell?
Gore’s father was $$ “tight” $$ w/ the commie who ran Occidental, Armand Hammer.
Meanwhile Buffett is picking up the pieces as the company winds down its billion dollar buy of a Carbon Engineering, which was running these “Direct Air Capture” scams which were supposed to redistribute carbon credits.
Here for Buffet’s latest buy:

Let’s just say it’s not the carbon capture he’s interested in... He’s buying into the largest oil producer in the Permian Basin.
