A group of Republican senators introduced a bill Thursday that would decouple funding for Israel from billions of additional dollars the White House requested for Ukraine.
The Israel Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2023 was introduced by Sen. Mike Lee of Utah, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio and Sen. Roger Marshall of Kansas.
“Ukraine and Israel are distinct, important issues, and Congress should have the opportunity to consider and vote on prospective aid packages individually,” Lee said in a press release.
“If the Biden administration’s case for additional Ukraine aid is not strong enough to stand on its own, then packaging them is an insulting request to lay before Congress. It is unreasonable for the administration to exploit an aid package for Israel to siphon off billions of taxpayer dollars in yet another blank check for Ukraine,” he said.

And they're not even smart enough to know it.
Excellent news and congratulations to all the fine FReepers who fought the good fight against the Zeepers. I’m chilling the champaign and the Fat Lady is warming up.
I think it’s clear many of us on FR led the fight and won the Battle in The Arena of Ideas.
And got called every name in the book for it.
Ping the other thought leaders.
Money just maybe the Ukraine money laundering op is in jeopardy.
I thought that the House determines how funding bill are introduced, per the Origination Clause? Or has Congress given up on that?
I am wondering what Aide Israel needs, and why they were not prepared to defend themselves in the face of a long-term, known threat, such that as soon as the shooting starts, they need our assistance?
Can they not defend themselves even in the short term?
I do not oppose helping, but there seems to be a lack of focus on a specific need for aid.
Maybe I am wrong, and this will not simply be a blank check.
Only the final compromise bill, the one that everyone already agrees on, has to originate in the House.
They need to make a law limiting the size of bills that get voted on. Why would ukraine and Israel spending even BE on the same bill anyways.

Absolutely. But to save their ‘sanity’, I prefer not to tell them just who came up with famous quote at the very beginning of the Ukraine war: “I don’t need a ride, I need ammo”. Hint for you Western Media-watching types, it was NOT Zelensky, it was not even a Ukrainian.
But I’ll leave it at that, as we may need some of that bunch to help us in the future.
All they REALLY need is the contingency munitions stocks the US sent to Ukraine.
And for the US to get the hell out of the way.
Great news! Let the RATs, especially the Bidens, find a different way to launder our tax money.
Great news. Of course neo-con scum will fight this like the Dems they really are.
How about the House Arestides fellow?
Can’t remember the full name. He deserves a ping.
Whatever the merits of the whole op in the first place - and I am on the side that thinks that whole op was discreditable fantasy - the fact is that most of the swamp was in for the ride.
Not true. All funding bills must originate in the House.
The way the Senate gets around it is to take another Bill from the House that is dead on arrival, gut it, and replace the contents with their bill.
It's all a game.
US Southern border first. Not one more cent to Ukraine or Israel until our border is secured.
They go back and forth...and at some point, it is indeed the House that introduces a bill to work on....
