North Carolina Republicans officially unveiled their first set of redistricting maps on Wednesday. With the formerly Democratic-dominated state supreme court now firmly in Republican control, Republicans are hoping these new maps – which will be fast-tracked to passage in the coming weeks – will help them strengthen their hold on power.
Currently, Republicans hold supermajorities in both houses of the legislature, while the state’s House delegation is split evenly with seven Democrats and seven Republicans.

The left-wing author of the linked article is outraged, naturally, yet was strangely silent about hyper-partisan Democrat gerrymanders in the recent past (Illinois, Pennsylvania, etc.) and will be gleeful about ones which are probably coming up in the near future (New York, Wisconsin, etc.).
If the Republicans can pick up 3 seats or so in North Carolina, that reduces the probability of racist Brooklyn homeboy Hakeem Jeffries wielding the Speaker's gavel come 2025. It probably doesn't reduce that probability enough, however. Even if "re-redistricting" between now and the 2024 elections is 100% neutral, the number of truly vulnerable Republican representatives exceeds the similar number for Democrats as things stand now.
If a minor miracle or 2 takes place in the 2024 Senate elections, the outcome *could* well be that the GOP loses the House but gains the Senate.
Don't be too fast to count those North Carolina chickens, though. Lawsuits have surely been prepared in anticipation of this day, and whether those suits have any merit is not relevant -- the idea, at a minimum, is to delay the implementation of this "harsh gerrymander", so don't be surprised if that's exactly what happens.
The FEC/SCOTUS will overturn it...................
The writer of this article probably thinks the Democrats never play hardball with gerrymandering. Only evil Republicans do it.
“the formerly Democratic-dominated state supreme court now firmly in Republican control”
Control of language is control of the narrative.
Dem-”dominated” vs Republican “control”.
Dems are just the majority of the people vs Republicans are power monsters out to destroy.
For a bit of special insight - see Michael Malice interview Scott Adams on intelligence and “framing”.
There is no intelligence (mostly), only words and phrasing.
Good on them! Wisconsin has done a LOT to clean up our elections since the 2020 steal. Of course, it would’ve been nice if they’d worked on it SOONER!
‘Wisconsin Republicans look to pass constitutional amendments on voter eligibility, elections grants’
‘Election Grants’ for example, is all the money Zuckert*rd threw at Wisconsin which greatly influenced the 2020 vote. If anyone should be in jail, it’s that POS!
The House delegation is evenly divided only because of the hugely pro Democrat gerrymandered map for the 2022 election. The NC Supreme Court has now been flipped and is firmly in Republican hands. So the legislature just needs to stuff a highly pro Republican map down Governor Roy Cooper’s throat. The State Supreme Court is sure to uphold it. Republicans will pick up 3-4 seats in the House from this alone.
That’s always a possibility.
First tactic will be to use the Alabama strategy and insist that because NC is 21% black then they are “entitled” to 3 out of 14 districts on that basis.
NC is also 10% Hispanic, which could mean another entitlement of 1 district. Both of those racist factors would combine to limit the GOP to at most 10 out of 14 seats. Which is still much better than the 7 they hold now.
My guess is that the Democrats will try to tie this up in the courts (like Republicans never do when the tables are turned) so that the 2022 partisan-Democrat map is used again in 2024.
Another tactic they’ll use is that the filing deadline for 2024 is coming up soon (as if it can’t be changed) and claim that it’s “too late” to implement a new map. That’s the trick the Rats tried in 2022 in New York when they didn’t get their way. It didn’t work then, but who knows if it will now?
” So the legislature just needs to stuff a highly pro Republican map down Governor Roy Cooper’s throat.”
This, they can easily do. AFAIK the Governor in North Carolina doesn’t even have veto power over redistricting plans. And if I remember correctly it was a DEMOCRAT legislature which came up with that scheme because they assumed they’d have legislative control forever but the state might elect a GOP Governor. Ha ha, again.
Nothing can compare with that raggedy-ass Gerrymander El Barito O’Bama and his raggedy-ass band of Feral “judges” did to Arizona. We now can see how that commie Gerrymander sh*t turned out for Arizona. Turned a deep red state lavender in no time. The Fairy State.
Do you know what the newly-empowered Democrat Supreme Court in Wisconsin is preparing to do regarding the district maps for Congress, Assembly & state Senate?
The Rats and the new Rat judge campaigned on screwing Republicans to the wall at the earliest possible opportunity if they took control of the Court, but I haven’t heard lately where their plans stand. They’ve got plenty of time, of course.
At a minimum they can flip 2 U.S. House seats and maybe give Democrats control in the legislature though that last part might be slightly difficult.
2022 U.S. House Elections in Illinois (blue on the map is the good guys, red is the Democrats)
“Harshest Gerrymander Yet”
The rats invented Gerrymandering and use it in every blue state without consequence.
Not even a close second to the 1st congressional district when foglietta (dem) ran the show in Philly. It was my district and it started at Cheltenham ave near bill cosby’s house in north philly, down broad street, then west philly baltimore ave, then chester pike delaware county, thru chester all the way to trainer on the delaware state border.
Under both proposed new maps - I am voting in a Democrat district that will never turn Red.
So, cry me freakin’ river.
“Do you know what the newly-empowered Democrat Supreme Court in Wisconsin is preparing to do regarding the district maps for Congress, Assembly & state Senate?”
Well, they’re working on impeaching Judge Janet, but it’s going to be one of the more spectacular fights in Wisconsin political history.
Wile I’m ALWAYS hopeful, the big picture is pretty depressing these days.
The democrats controlled the NC Statehouse from reconstruction to 2009 they can suck it
