Tom Emmer drops out of speaker’s race, hours after being nominated

GOP Rep. Tom Emmer has dropped out of speaker race – a move that comes just hours after he won his party’s nomination, the latest sign that Republicans are no closer to electing a new speaker.

Earlier in the day, Emmer’s bid to be speaker appeared on the verge of collapse amid opposition from the right flank of his conference and fresh attacks waged by former President Donald Trump – just hours after the Minnesota Republican was picked as the party’s nominee.

Several Republicans who oppose Emmer say they will not move off their opposition and are calling for a new candidate. Emmer can only afford to lose four Republicans, and 26 voted against him behind closed doors.

Emmer voted to certify the 2020 election, voted to keep the government open for 47 days, voted for the bipartisan law to avoid a debt default and voted to codify same-sex marriage – all issues that members of the hard-right have cited as issues.

Our patriots are rotting in a DC jail without having committed a crime or been found guilty of committing a crime. And all that son-of-a-bitch McCarthy had to do to fix it was release the video tapes LIKE HE PROMISED TO DO. McCarthy earned the distinction of being the only Speaker in history to be degaveled by his own party. He's a disgrace and I hope he finds himself up on charges when the truth comes out. Leave him in power? Oh hell no. Not venting on you; I just want the world to know we are super pissed off about the false imprisonment of patriots here at the grass roots level.

Whoever they do end up voting for, I hope it is someone who could step into the role as president if need be. I doubt that is Donalds, and they have a whole list full of people with high Heritage Foundation and National Taxpayer Union ratings. Surely there are Freedom Caucus approved choices among them.

Bergman was a high ranking Marine combat veteran. He could probably do the job. No doubt there are others as well.
