House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) dropped out of the Speaker’s race on Tuesday, just hours after the conference nominated the Minnesota Republican for the top job, according to a source familiar.
Emmer withdrew his name from the running after a contingent of Republicans made clear they would not back him on the House floor, making it virtually impossible for him to secure enough votes to win the gavel.

Johnson likely to get the next try. Time to start looking up the evil deeds of that dirtbag RINO.
.
best choice is to wait until a few days before shutdown to bring back Jordan. A WIN-WIN situation is Jordan or “no speaker”
Yep, I guess his suck up call didn’t work.
What a flaming clown show.

You could very well be correct. That would solidify my thought that the Uniparty rules us, not represents us! Amendment #2!
Republicans are so stupid. They nominate a guy who works for mass murderer George Soros and who wants to get rid of the electoral college.
If this keeps up. Liz Cheney will be throwing her hat into the ring.
[The Republican party is even more dysfunctional than the Dem party.]
Boehner would be good, he knew how to put the 'Rats in their place.
Time to end foreign spending. Foreign nations should be funding us.
Best news of the day!
That was quick.
As far as I know he's eligible, but picking him WOULD break the Internet and I'm not sure he could stands the stress of the job. However there might be some other J6 prisoner who could do the job. I don't know them well enough to choose which one, but a few in GOP caucus might know better. It would make an excellent caucus vote nomination, sure to get media coverage.
For less far out options I with I could go with Rush Limbaugh, but perhaps Bo Snerdly would be the first black Speaker. Steve Bannon would make an interesting threat of a choice. Or some other well documented as conservative, yet less controversial, pundit who's avoided the arena of political service. Bill Whittle comes to mind. IIRC he can't become president because his mom was British, but he's good with media, as his you tube record illustrates.
Many non-essential government employees are temporarily furloughed during a shutdown, while essential personnel whose funding is not dependent on annual appropriations bills – such as military service members, law enforcement agents, and air traffic controllers – continue to work.

Speaker voters on the horns of a dilemma.
The essential workers won’t get paid though. Not until after the shutdown would end, then they get back pay.
Thanks, though :)
“Good. I hope they keep dragging this out.”
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I don’t agree.
Dragging this out is NOT good for America, and especially not for us Republicans.
We are starting to look like a bunch of chickens without heads aimlessly running around bumping into doors and and walls... while the world is at war...
I am for the party OF LAW AND ORDER. Does anyone remember that?
It was the Republican motto in the good old days.
What I see now in the House is definitely not ORDER!
Its clownish chaos. The majority of Americans will soon start to think we are not a serious party worth voting for.
We are shooting ourlseves in the foot. Its’a shame.
Good riddance!
It never got to a Public Floor Vote.
