A mere 2,100 migrants in the Big Apple’s care have applied for work permits — with not a single one yet to receive federal approval, city officials admitted Wednesday.
City Hall also still has no solid figure for how many of the more than 40,000 adult asylum seekers it is housing are even eligible to legally work here, officials conceded at a city council hearing.
The revelation frustrated even Mayor Adams’ fellow Democrats on the council.
“This migrant strategy is going nowhere fast: We have to secure the border,” Council Member Robert Holden (D-Queens) said.
So far, the city’s migrant help center has submitted 444 work applications and another 1,700 were filed with the help of the feds stationed in Lower Manhattan.

That’s the way it used to be. Immigrants landed at Ellis Island, got a medical checkup, then off to some factory or mill for employment.
Today there are no medical checkups, and no factories or mills. Just free money from a debtor nation. This cannot end well.

Why would they think they need to give that up? Get jobs. Become self sufficient and forced to leave?

When I lived in Germany Merkel’s rational was the imported turd worlders were needed to take jobs and pay in to the generous social welfare system. Last I read 99% of the imported trash is on welfare and the other 1% work for the government in make-work jobs.
Why would ANYONE want to work when they can break the law by sneaking in and getting every welfare benefit and live free thanks to the stupid gringo? The yget representative government without paying any taxes, being subject to jury duty, or the draft. They don’t pay a dime in to the tax base yet get free housing, education, medical care, food, and transportation. Very depressing to see the white western world commit suicide.

A Democratic lawmaker from Queens quit the City Council committee overseeing immigration because it is so far to the left that members wouldn’t meet with federal officials.
“I’ve been asking for this for some time because it’s all one-sided,” Councilman Robert Holden said of his request for reassignment, which was granted Tuesday.
“The agenda is already set, and I could never get anything on it,” he added, including setting up a meeting with US Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials.
Holden said he’s had to meet alone with ICE personnel at their Lower Manhattan offices because he “could not get any other Council member to go with me, … like it’s a bad thing.”
The intransigence left him baffled, said Holden.
“Why is it?” he asked. “They’re law enforcement. They’re saving us from … bad people who should not be in this country. So why wouldn’t we invite them to an immigration hearing to at least hear their side?”
Holden also charged that the seven-member committee “doesn’t get anything done,” saying it’s focused on fringe issues like a non-binding resolution calling on the state to allow undocumented immigrants to get driver’s licenses.

My guess is they are supplementing the dole with work, In some cases even otherwise legitimate work off the books.
Yep - those ingrates previously lived on dirt and sewage and are already used to the high life compliments of Americans who are hated by those they elected.
