Israeli Official Calls for 'Doomsday' Nuclear Missile Option

An Israeli lawmaker is calling for her nation's military to use nuclear warfare in response to attacks by Hamas.

Revital "Tally" Gotliv, an Israeli lawyer and member of the Knesset for the Likud, published multiple posts advocating for a forceful retaliation following a surprise attack on Gaza on Saturday at the hands of the militant Palestinian group designated as a terrorist organization by the United States.

More than 1,600 combined Israelis and Palestinians have reportedly been killed since Hamas launched attacks, according to the Associated Press, and hundreds of others have been injured. Hamas has reportedly taken an unknown number of hostages as the conflict has escalated.

"Jericho Missile! Jericho Missile! Strategic alert. before considering the introduction of forces. Doomsday weapon! This is my opinion. May God preserve all our strength," Gotliv wrote on X, formerly Twitter, on Monday, according to a translation.

Highly unlikely.
The only time Israel even considered this was during the ‘73 war when they used up nearly every weapon they had.
They consider, like us that Nuc’s are a last resort.
What we are seeing is something more like the 68 war.

Overkill.

You save that for the primary belligerents who are threatening your existence.

Nowhere near that point so far...

You need crazies on your side who express crazy options and opinions.

You control them, of course, but you need them to instill fear in the bad guys.

Oh, and F Newsweak.

Ideally, the current situations remains mopping up the Palestinians in Gaza. But I can see other countries (Iran, Syria, etc.) being stupid and jumping in the help the Palestinians in a very explicit “boots on the ground” sort of way. I think it’s smart for Israel to put it right out on the table: Under certain circumstances, we will nuke Damascus or Tehran. So let’s not cause those certain circumstances, okay?

Israel would be smart to use a 100kt nuclear weapon "for peaceful nuclear engineering".

Explode it 1000 feet under Gaza city. The resultant ground shock wave would destroy most tunnels in the north.

A second would be needed closer to Egypt. The limestone is a perfect conduit for shock waves to collapse tunnels.

Good study in 2004 on how only 1 or 2 nukes would solve the tunnel problem in Gaza with minimum loss of life, radiation, and effects.

I would think that would be overkill as in killing their own people...how do you nuke a 140 square mile bit of land and not kill your own people in the area.

If the average wind direction blows from Gaza to Israel, so would nuclear fallout. If it’s nukes, it would make more sense to detonate downwind - say, east of Israel - say, in the direction of historic Babylon ... say ... Ezekiel 13:19-20

Very little fallout if exploded at correct altitude. Airburst with “clean” nuke is very feasible.

Doomsday weapon! This is my opinion.

Note to Tally:

Conventional war is horrific but relatively slow. Tossing nukes around when you live in a mini nation is highly inadvisable and can result in retaliation that quickly incinerates a matchbox country.
