With many Americans stuck in Israel and desperate to get out after the events of the past week, Ron DeSantis announced he will send planes to pick up Floridians.
Wow! Ron DeSantis, the Governor of Florida, issued an executive order to send airplanes to Israel to rescue the 20,000 Americans who are now stranded amid a war. About 1,000 of them are from Florida, his admin says.

DeSantis has also made it clear he will not charge the approximately 1,000 Floridians in Israel for the flight home.

The rules for a ride from the Biden administration are much different.
Proud to be a Floridian today and every day. Thank you @GovRonDeSantis @FLSERT and everyone who is making this rescue effort possible. https://t.co/kn1PkyNLt8

When you run a government that has a budget surplus, you don't need to charge your fellow Americans for plane rides. Totally unrelated but isn't there a candidate with his own plane that he could send over and give these people a ride? https://t.co/PRCVduYo33

Florida runs a budget surplus and is able to provide this help as a result.
I love RDS but I don't think he has the authority to do that? https://t.co/fgLdSgFKkx

DeSantis isn't one to wait for permission if something needs to get done. He is a 'ask for forgiveness later' kind of guy.
No matter who you support for president, this is a king move. Looking out for citizens, and getting them out of war zone.
Meanwhile, the feds will get around to sending planes sooner or later, after you promise to pay for your seat. https://t.co/6O0jzXEtCp

The Biden administration made it clear to Americans they would have to sign 'IOU' agreements in exchange for their travel back to America. The DeSantis planes will not require repayment.
DeSantis is putting on clinic of leadership in time of crisis. Anything a Governor can do, he is. 🇺🇸🇮🇱🐊 https://t.co/DvqDl1AuGU

Let's hope other Governors follow suit and start making plans to get their constituents home and safe.
@corymillsfl and Gov Desantis are really repping FL well lately 🔥

It’s a good day to be a Floridian. Very impressed with both Rep Mills & Gov DeSantis right now.
“Get sh*t done.”

A Florida Representative, Cory Mills, has already been in Israel helping to arrange flights and get Americans home safely.
The Biden admin is completely dysfunctional, so a state governor is going to evacuate Americans from Israel https://t.co/HKOrtO0oUX pic.twitter.com/ZCfVig1xf4
— recusant#☕ (@neorecusant) October 12, 2023 Biden can't stay awake long enough to make a day's worth of plans. The stakes are too high to leave people's lives in a goofy man's hands. With the House in disarray and a President asleep at the wheel, it is nice to see some politicians actually working for their constituents.

I wonder if he’ll first load the planes with illegal aliens for drop off in Gaza.
Good move, plus one for DeSantis (assuming he doesn’t charge his residents for the flights). Abbott needs to do the same, along with other red state governors, as it really shows the country how sick the Neocons are in charging Americans to leave countries that become dangerous while they are there.
good.
“I wonder if he’ll first load the planes with illegal aliens for drop off in Gaza.”
No sense in sending empty planes.
I wish it success.
Glad Desantis’s looking out for his constituents.
Is he going to pick and choose if say someone from New Jersey wants to hop on the plane? Could be a mad dash.
Like you said, hope other Governors step up to help. Should have been done in Afghanistan after Biden dropped the ball.
That would be fantastic!!!
I think you’ll see more states doing that, looking after their own people because the US won’t. . He has also called up the National Guard here.
With Alabamans clinging to the landing gear as the planes take off.
That’s my fear. 1000 Americans stuck in a warzone would push to the front of the line to get first class seats out.
Refugees should be loaded on outbound offloaded ammo flights......
Rescuing people from danger is one thing, but there's no reason to give people free flights to the U.S. just because the one they booked previously was canceled.
“Glad Desantis’s looking out for his constituents”.

I wonder how long it will take before Trump concocts a rationale to condemn DeSantis for this action? Probably not long, since he’s already thrown Netanyahu under the bus.
We wish. Bet the Embassy people were gotten out via the US Military.
Trump has? What did he say?
As most here know, I’m not exactly the biggest fan that DeSantis has on this site, but I do consider it the responsibility of the federal government to evacuate US citizens from dangerous areas, particularly if they were not listed as dangerous by the State Department when those people went into the area.
And, obviously, if the federal government won’t do it, or charges an open-ended amount to do it - well into the $1000s, then state governors can charter planes and do it, as it costs next to nothing to do that for 1000 people (probably far less than what Texas is spending to deport its illegals to NY City).
5th sentence:
“DeSantis has also made it clear he will not charge the approximately 1,000 Floridians in Israel for the flight home.”
Trump has? What did he say?

From his speech in Florida Wednesday night:
“Trump at a rally Wednesday night said Netanyahu “let us down” just before the U.S. killed top Iranian general Qassem Soleimani in 2020. He also said Israeli leaders needed to “step up their game” and referred to Hezbollah, the group Israel fears may launch a large-scale attack from the country’s north, as “very smart.” In an interview that aired Thursday, he added to his criticism, saying Netanyahu “was not prepared” for the deadly weekend incursion from Gaza”.
