US House Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Michael McCaul told reporters on Wednesday that Egypt had warned Israel three days before Hamas's assault on southern Israel that "an event like this could happen," according to US media.
"There seems to have been a failure of intelligence. We're not quite sure how we missed it. We're not quite sure how Israel missed it," said McCaul after a classified briefing about the war.
"We know that Egypt had warned the Israelis three days prior that an event like this could happen. We know this event was planned perhaps as long as a year ago," added the House Foreign Affair chair.
McCaul's statements come after a series of reports that Egyptian intelligence officials had sent warnings to Israel ahead of Hamas's assault over the weekend.

Already denied.
if they really were informed,
it is NOT ‘failure of intelligence’,
it is/was treason.
Just like DHS bringing in terrorists, is it not?
Well, in that case!
What does “warned” even mean? Yet another note to the Israeli’s saying “Hamas will strike soon, in places they don’t expect, in a way they don’t expect”, or something like that.
After 173 warnings, just how is Israel supposed to respond to the 174th warning?
LoL, even if true...
> There seems to have been a failure of intelligence. <
And more than that, it was a failure of common sense. At a minimum, every Israeli veteran should have a personal rifle and ammunition readily available. Secured, but readily available.
This is evidently nowhere near the case. The one frontier kibbutz that was able to repel the barbarians did so because the kibbutz’s “security coordinator” was able to open the local armory in time.
Had she been a bit slow, that kibbutz would have been the site of a massacre too.
I mean, I could have told them that Hamas was full of murdering terrorists and they could come over the wall and kill people.
As it is, Israel has strong security, but it is scattered and they are not always on alert. It appears that the murderers did have some insight to the security in place, and were able to disable the warning systems.
Right. Something is going to happen somewhere.
See, I told you so…
I read this. I wonder what people would have expected to happen?
A senior person gets a tip, vague…but from a reliable source. What do they do?
What they don’t do is call up the reserves and get people running around without something concrete.
These things have to be vetted and that takes time. 3 Days is not enough time to do that. I probably takes two days to get the information to the people would can look at it.
I don’t completely trust Egypt, McCaul, Israel, or US Intelligence to be transparent on what may or may not have been known.
Yep. There is only so much can do to prepare for a vague attack warning.
Israeli and Russian intelligence warned Bob Mueller and the FBI about an imminent attack by the Tsarnaevs in Boston and ignored it. Less than a week later they attacked the Boston Marathon.
A few days ago the phrasing for the warning was “something big”
“Yep. There is only so much can do to prepare for a vague attack warning.”
That’s my point. I was making an analogy to 9-11 when the NeverTrumpers BLASTED Bush Jr. for ignoring the warnings.
The ‘warnings’ went along the lines of: “We will attack the Infidel at a time he doesn’t expect, in a way he doesn’t expect.”
The Democrats ran with the above and claimed that Bush Jr. missed the OBVIOUS warnings of what was to come.
Now the NeverTrumpers are saying the same about Netanyahu.
“if they really were informed,
it is NOT ‘failure of intelligence’,
it is/was treason.”
it was likely treason even if they were not warned. No way there were not some insiders aware of this. This was a seriously large attack that required a huge amount of coordination and mobilization.
No one in government intelligence would lie…
Yep. I remember.

In the past Hamas has used rockets and tunneled underground from Gaza. Seems like it would be some obvious assumptions of what Hamas might try. It’s not Egypt’s job to make sure Israel protects its people.
That is quite socialist. I know Israel was founded as a socialist nation and kibbutz is a socialist endeavor.
