Ronald Reagan’s values, vision and vibrant personal optimism inspired a rebirth of American pride, growth and exceptionalism in the 1980s, after nearly two decades of social and cultural upheaval.
"Reagan was deeply concerned about America in the late 70s," Virginia-based historian and author Craig Shirley told Fox News Digital. "America had gone through 17 long, horrible years beginning with the assassination of JFK."
The quagmire of Vietnam, the author added, the failed presidency of Lyndon Johnson, the resignation of Richard Nixon, the Iran hostage crisis and the infamous social and economic "malaise" of the Jimmy Carter administration all created the feeling of a nation in decline.

No.
Reagan Re-enactors cannot deal with 2023 American decline.
We have far to many immigrants in this country for there EVER to be a landslide like in the 80’s, the education system is turning out Marxists in droves this nation has lost the LOVE of country in 1/2 of the nation! I loved Reagan but he screwed up on immigration royally!!
“Government isn’t the solution, government is the problem.”
True today more than ever.
Communism is a cancer, you can put it into remission, but it can always come back, and once it’s terminal, there’s nothing you can do.
The quagmire of Ukraine, the failed presidency of Joe Biden, the prospect of Harris or Newsom, the Hamas hostage crisis, the infamous social and economic "malaise" of the Joe Biden administration, WOKE lunacy across the land, the destruction of our energy sector, the demolishing of the southern border all created the feeling of a nation in decline.
Reaganism is already there in everything Trump is doing.
I agree completely. This article is errant nonsense. The America of 1985 doesn't exist anymore, and it isn't coming back. Those clueless fossils, pining for the past, thinking that it ever will, are part of the problem.
I don't know myself what the possible path forward may be, but what I do know is that "It's Morning in America" pap like this isn't going to cut it.
As Reagan said, the most frightening 9 words are; I’m from the government, and I’m here to help.
Yup and too many people AND STATES buy it hook, line, and sinker...
I was in 1st grade in 1963 when JFK was killed finished college in 1980 - I had no idea the US was in such turmoil, I thought those were the good old days.
And Hezbollah
Compared to today’s shtshow ... Jimmy Carter’s “stagflation” and demoralization of the military seems tame by comparison. In the ‘70s, we had thousands of Russian nukes pointed at us, that (we hoped) they were afraid to use. We had communist infiltrators (and traitors) in government, academia, and media. Today, those infiltrators and traitors have largely taken over government, academia, and media. The existential threat isn’t so much from foreign enemies as it is from domestic enemies and traitors.
The 1960s were both, the good old days and also a time of death and violence and turmoil.
Agree. Different as 1980 was from 1860.
BTW, I will be speaking at the Reagan Ranch Foundation in Santa Barbara a week from Saturday, then leading a tour of the Reagan Library on Sunday. Tues we will be touring the Nixon Library in San Clemente. If you’re at those locations, let me know and I’ll see if I can get you into an event.
