Students are the least prepared for college than they’ve been in three decades, according to the nonprofit organization that administers the ACT.

The organization found more than 4 in 10 high school seniors hit none of the college readiness benchmarks, saying this is “historic highs in 2023.”

The decline marks a 32-year low for high school seniors’ scores on the test, with results like this last seen in 1991.

How can this be? How can prospective Grievance Studies majors be unprepared? Grievance Studies programs require emotions, anger and a feeling of victimization to earn a degree; intelligence is not a factor.

So, no more ACT testing.

That's definitely coming, or the test will be relegated to a "racist" metric which will not be considered in all public colleges and universities.

I experienced a similar dumbing down. The job site Indeed administered a panel of optional proficiency exams to job seekers to highlight their skills in specific areas. The score levels were "expert," "highly proficient," "proficient," "familiar" and "unfamiliar." By any standard, this was a useful tool to employers for finding the best people for a specific role.

Within the past year, the scores were leveled to "proficient" and "not proficient." I had scored expert or highly proficient on several skills test but was now rated as "proficient." When I contacted Indeed, they informed me of the change. I was demoted for the sake of a few sub-optimal "minorities" who felt "oppressed" by the rating system.

Sounds typical.

I won awards in the USAF and worked hard in ChemE and EE.
Then I went to an IBEW job.
Now, I just keep my head down and stay just under metrics.
Remote, non union, electrical distribution design work.
The last 6+ months, every hire was a minority or female.
I take my money, and I am checked out at 1700 on the dot.

40% failed to hit any of the college readiness benchmarks? Just lower the benchmark scores, problem solved (all students will be above average and feel good about themselves).

If colleges would stop handing out worthless degrees, people would realize that trade schools are a good thing. Not every young adult is suited for college.

I got zip out of English 101...and filling my schedule with useless electives ticked my off. Colleges should be 20 credits a year or 80 for a Bachelors Degree ...skip all the dumb add ons..including gym.

If anyone hasn’t seen “Idiocracy”, that movie perfectly captures the current moronic state of the human race.

SAT has twice on my lifetime dropped scoring criteria, basically inflating results. Following that up with grade inflation, no wonder large and growing percentage of college students today get straight A’s, even if they don’t learn much.

Oh the delicious irony on display here! (Seriously, is it just me?)

Students are the least prepared for college than they’ve been in three decades

"...the least....than..." is that piss-poor grammar or not?

"...less...than..." - OK

"..the least...[drop the "than"]" - OK

I worked at ACT for several years, used to say, “ACT: measuring the decline of American education for 60 years!”
