Why Have Military Academies? The fall of West Point raises an uncomfortable question for patriotic Americans
American Thinker ^ | 10/10/23 | Tony Lentini

Established in 1802 under President Thomas Jefferson, West Point is our nation’s oldest armed services academy and the first engineering school in the United States. Why engineering? Because it is a battlefield-relevant discipline that promotes the kind of critical thinking military leaders need to fight and win wars. Successful combat officers must be able to solve basic engineering problems, such as determining whether bridges will support trucks and armored vehicles, how best to cross rivers and other obstacles, how to plan and build fortifications, and where to place demolition charges, to name just a few required skills.

According to the West Point website, “graduates were largely responsible for the construction of the bulk of the nation’s earliest waterways, infrastructure, harbors, the Washington Monument, and surveys for the future transcontinental railroads. Perhaps the greatest engineering feat in world history was the Panama Canal completed in 1914 under the direction of Colonel George W. Goethals (Class of 1880), an Army engineer.”

All that began to change in the mid-1980s, when West Point transitioned to a liberal arts institution offering degrees in a wide variety of disciplines, many of which have little to no relevance to the battlefield or to leading troops. Most useless and counterproductive of these is a minor that now woke West Point offers: “Diversity and Inclusion.”

Courses within this minor include Social Inequality; Power and Difference; The Politics of Race, Gender and Sexuality; World Religions; Sex and Civilizations; Race, Ethnicity, Nation; and Society & Culture in American History. These are fitting for a military academy that now promotes anti-white racism, communist-style self-criticism sessions for white cadets, transgenderism, discriminatory entry requirements, and race-over-merit promotions.

High school ROTC/RNCOTC programs mandatory for graduation.

Good idea, as your other points, but too advanced for public school, is my personal opinion.

Rather, an ongoing diet of D.I. obedience response training for a summer somewhere between 11-14 y. o. age, to create or reinforce its lack in at-home family discipline. replacing "Social Studies" for that year and purging out the Dr. Spock debilitating "no violence" falsehoods so beloved by weak-minded parent(s).

That's enough for a high-school graduation, to prepare them for a more detailed menu of personal discipline and effectiveness. And if not, a BCD for life. On their medical/mental health record.

How about that (from an 87 y. o. retired PhD scientist who has gone through it all)?

Unfortunately, there are courses of study that no college will offer as it's just not viable for the few graduates who would go into the military.

Probably, but we should comprehend that there is probably no state-managed public-school system or local school in it that can (or would) prepare a child for a moral or productive life as an adult, let alone the rigorous personal discipline that a military institute must instill to bring a "warrior" through a combat experience (and his enlisted wards) alive and still functional. Clearly, none of our present government academies can do it, even with good entering candidates.

Donald Trump understood all this decades ago. He was--and still is--determined to save the USA from destruction.

His youthful preparation of a "rich-kid" supercilious superiority plus a born intellectual capability have gotten him a place above the other willing presidential candidates, but in other historical eras, no. He has personality traits that deeply damage his personal and public behavior image that would not characterize other outstanding leaders like Washington, the Adamses (3), Jefferson, Jackson, Lincoln, McKinley, Hoover, and Eisenhower. Try Reagan, also, the last, really great elected Chief Magistrate. Since then, crap.

All of these men, mostly arising from less-well-moneyed backgrounds, have in their ascent gained enough humility towards men and meekness toward the Christian God so as not to impair their leadership qualities in their occupation of the Presidential Office.

Unfortunately (and inexcusably) Donald has some ingrained personal qualities of anger-management, impulsivity, hedonism, insouciance, and certain kinds of lack of esteem for the humanity of ordinary individuals that have only been overcome by the decisiveness and strength of personality that the voting population find appealing.

To a significant fraction of power-wielding individuals his negative qualities have become unacceptable. In another age, I would have felt the same way. In his first general election I found it very difficult to vote for him, perhaps another of the Constitutional Party; but certainly never for Blowhard Joe, the tool of Mr. Obama's mendacity.

Because of several good outcomes of Trump's presidential outcomes, I was much more willing to vote for him in the second election that he should have dominated except for what I believe is criminal manipulation of absentee ballotry.

I would still vote for him, as the best we have to combat the morality-drowning corruption emanating from the segment of vote-polluting management still called "Democratic" (which they are not). Trump solidly represents those who still represent the proposition of the nation being a Republic, as compared to those RINOs who no longer hold to that idea, but want to control those who do.

With the humility and personality of an Eisenhower or Reagan, I don't believe that Donald could gain an electoral advantage in legitimate primaries. But we have no other since the days of Reagan that could surmount Trump's successes as President.

So, let's have him once more. It is now very late in the evening of the "American Era." To even begin to change that vector it would be absolute necessary to reverse the philosophies in the running of all of our training institutes from the John Dewey "Human Manifesto"/Dr. Spock's child-controlled-family approach back to the age-old classical parental-familial-Biblical model such as promoted by Admiral Hyman G. Rickover, standing against the amoral Dewey/Spock/Marxist/"woke" approach that has failed humanity everywhere enormously.

Do we really need military academies anymore? I don’t think so.

Have you served in the military?

--- "These are not our troops." Yup. I erred. But these are.
"The observance of Pride Month, celebrated every June, was first recognized by the Department of Defense in June 2012. It is a time when the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community come together to celebrate love and authenticity. Maj. Rachel Jones is an example of this, serving openly as a transgender female Soldier. Jones is the U.S. Army Sustainment Command’s Cyber Division chief, G6 (Information Management). ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — Coming out as a transgender female saved Maj. Rachel Jones’ life.

"The U.S. Army Sustainment Command Cyber Division chief, G6 (Information Management), struggled with depression and suicidal ideation for most of her life. Today, she is living her truth and is no longer battling depression or suicidal thoughts.

Yes, I have. But that was a military that was a lot different than what we’ve got now. In those days they weren’t dismissing field grade officers everyday. Generals weren’t out there working to overthrow the President of the United States.

Taught to win by cheating, and endangering others' lives? Their fellow citizens?

A young college freshman with limited experience could have had a fatal fall. This was an absolutely rank horse and unsuitable for unwitting strangers.

While true, ‘twas a lesson in things not always being what they seem.

Cadets die almost every year, learning the art of war.
