Nearly every student, sitting at desks in Army uniforms at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, had a similar story. The public schools they came from were crumbling: There were holes in the walls, books held together with duct tape, few computers, not enough teachers and failing air conditioning that made paying attention in class impossible in the sweltering heat.
Test scores, which were already falling before the pandemic, took a nosedive, and recent years have seen a blitz in teacher strikes over poor working conditions and being paid wages not far above the poverty level.
For the Army to fill its ranks with aggressive recruiting quotas, it needs applicants who can meet a baseline of academic standards meant to be measured by the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, or ASVAB. A dwindling pool of young Americans can meet those enlistment requirements, forcing the Army to pick up the slack as it scrambles to get kids up to snuff.

Instead teachers indoctrinate them about the joys of fisting and how a boy can become a girl and vice versa and how to pick out which of the 57 genders they are. Instead of teaching about how good they have it in America and how capitalism has raised more people out of poverty than any system in the world, they teach them to hate America as racist and sexist and that capitalism is all about greed.
The owners of the country don’t want that. They want mindless robots just smart enough to run the machines.
Compliant turnips.
Funny that they don’t blame a teachers’ union whose only purpose is to get democrats elected, and are themselves illiterate.
The India education system is for shit. The ones that thrive as contractors to america are good because their parents made them good at STEM, the government schools in either the english or indian tradition had nothing to do with that than provide the warehousing of children for 5-8 hours a day.
Immigrant that thrive in the US thrive because their parents value the same things that 40% of americans value, hard work renders wealth. Hard work in education in STEM renders great wealth.
Also, there has been a raping of the finding over the years. In one case parish 4 in New Orleans was ghosting students and not providing an education to the students with the federal funds and the school board was complicit in misappropriation. The school board was generationally run with at least grandkids of past members controlling the funding going back decades. I think there was very little attention on that fiasco when the feds decimated the board, lit the grand jury under their asses, and took control of the district.
I will assume that similar malfeasance is happening in other major cities and the same actions should happen but cronyism will keep that from happening.
> Fixing our education system is not that hard, and does not require billions on frivolities. <
I spent decades teaching at an urban public high school. And you are 100% correct. One simple fix would be to offer true honors classes, classes with high standards and demanding coursework. This would cost nothing extra.
By the way, the school district where I worked eliminated their honors classes as they weren’t diverse enough. I wish I were kidding, but I’m not.
Bullet holes?
failing air conditioning that made paying attention in class impossible in the sweltering heat.
I attended Catholic schools in NYC. No air conditioning. Swelter in early fall and late spring. So what?
If we complained about our discomfort, the nuns would scold us and say that we should "offer it as a sacrifice to God."
We don’t have an “education system.” We have a system of government schools where education is absolutely the LAST thing the people who run them want to see happening there.
We get the top 1-2% of Indians. People seem to forget the sidewalk and drinking water shitters.
Arranged marriages, caste system, etc.
Their best are due to England and mixed blood.
I have seen personally the offices of the local school district administration vs the school rooms. The admins should be fired. It is disgusting.
Impossible. White people have had air conditioning since the Devil gave it to us…
Are they concerned that some students have slipped through the cracks and did not have
enough exposure to Tranny-Porn, Drag Queens and perverted sex instruction?
I went to a one room school.
often we had to rear our mittens and coats until mid day when the stove and hopefully sun warmed it up to above freezing.
It was sometimes 40 below zero in the classroom when we got there.
No running water, got electricity when I was 7.
Really? I thought we stole air conditioning from Africans.
You’re correct, AC was from Wakanda, Math was the Devil.
Mea culpa.
Public Schools in the US is a form of Child Abuse. Bullying is commonplace because teachers have no control of their classrooms. Many teachers were not able to academically major in anything else-Most teachers score much lower on the SAT and ACT exams. Most Admin in schools were teachers that were poor teachers, so they were promoted out of the classroom. If you think your child teacher is wrong or doesn’t understand something, you are probably right.
The parents of most public-school children are not interested in their children’s education. These parents have no clue what is being taught nor do they really care as long as Sue Snowflake has a place to go for 8 hours a day so momma or daddy can go to work or shopping. Homework is no longer assigned in most cases because momma and daddy complained to the school about having to help their child with homework. Heck, teachers are happy because they don’t have to grade the homework.
The curriculum has been dumbed down so that Ralphie with an IQ of 60 is now in the Gifted or IB program. Reading, Writing, and math are a second thought when social issues are deemed most important. Sure, Bubba can’t read, write or count past three, but he sure knows he has a choice in his gender or how Republicans or Whitey is evil.
I have taught in a Vocational college (Trade School) and in Corporate America for 30 years and this is what I have seen and have had to deal with over the years.
Once again, most public schools are a form of child abuse(neglect).
Growing up, most schools in New York City were not air conditioned. My sister went to Bishop Reilly that was air conditioned because it was on the Long Island Expressway and couldn’t open the windows on hot days.
1.4 billion Indians,
0.01 of that is still 14 million people.
