After 12 years of planning and construction, the largest Hindu temple outside India in the modern era is ready to open to the public in Robbinsville, New Jersey
If stones could talk, sing and tell stories, Yogi Trivedi believes the marble and limestone that adorn the spires, pillars and archways of the stunning Hindu temple in central New Jersey would compose a paean to the divine.
The tales these stones tell are those of seva (selfless service) and bhakti (devotion), which form the core of the Swaminarayan sect, a branch of Hinduism, said Mr. Trivedi, a scholar of Hinduism at Columbia University.
It took a combined total of about 4.7 million hours of work by artisans and volunteers to hand-carve about 2 million cubic feet of stone. The four varieties of marble from Italy and limestone from Bulgaria traveled first to India and then over 8,000 miles across the world to New Jersey.
They were then fitted together like a giant jigsaw to create what is now touted as the largest Hindu temple outside India to be built in the modern era, standing on a 126-acre tract. It will open to the public on Monday.

At what point, and maybe it is too late, do we say that traditional America was our value and needs to be protected and sustained?
Nope. We have plenty of our own. No need to import more. Tell yiur friend.
“What I’m asking for is that we turn away the millions of invaders and colonizers coming into the US.”
And THIS I fully agree with. But we really need to differentiate between culture and Religion. They are not all one and the same. Stereotyping is the problem. Should all Catholic Irish decent be sent back home because of their historical tendencies to drink and fight? What about the Irish who do not drink and fight? The Constitution is designed to protect the individual from the majority and stereotyping. When we ask that it stereotype and be selective towards any one group we are sealing our own fate because we will be next.
But the Indians are mostly Doctors, Scientists and other white collar professionals who probably make more money and contribute more to society than your garden variety piece of drunken white Anglo Saxon Protestant trash. I would think we more of the former and less of the latter.
Complete lie. They are mostly telemarketers, scammers, HR parasites. Their universities are diploma mills that churn out “doctors” who are more likely to kill you than cure you. Go back to Delhi and run a scam call center.
Bro you’re ridiculous. Hindu Indians are peaceful and productive.
Of course you have no proof to back you up. No sense arguing with idiots like you anymore.
Imported on H1B visas to take jobs from Americans for 1/3 of the price. I don’t give a crap if they aren’t violent. Is that the new litmus test for importing needless immigrants? Go back to your pagan subcontinent. We are full.
You have no proof of your argument. So stop arguing.

BTW, Indians are considered Asians.
very good! Reason and facts. When I lived in Portland, Oregon, I saw just off a roadway, a very large statue of Kwan Yin. I was zurprised. Earlier in years, I found myself just down the sidewalk a-ways from the famous Crystal Cathedral in Southern California. It was a marvel of construction. To balance, while stationed at Dover AFB, in Delaware, a Thai-American WAF asked me to accompany her to a Thai Buddhist temple in Silver Springs, MD. I was expecting a Thai-design ‘waht’. It was an “old money’ Victorian with a few ‘waht-ish’ modifications. I was impressed.
I agree that America has no major threat of becoming anything else than what we are, today.
I heard this statement, from within a Pentecostal megachurch in the 1980’s: “ We are going to take this country back for god!”
My question was: “ What are you going to do with all those American citizens who say no thank you? You can’t run over their 1st Amendment right?”
I.got.no.answer! just a blank stare.
Thank you for sharing this. Unfortunately many religions try to justify forced religion. It is a hypocritical and arrogant mistake, what if the religion being forced on everyone here was Islam? Would those who currently support forced religion admit they themselves opened the door for this violation of individual rights?
No, in their minds they do not make foolish mistakes that can set precedent and create blowback after the fact.
“I agree that America has no major threat of becoming anything else than what we are, today.”
But I have to disagree with this perspective. We are definitely becoming something else, but politically not religiously. Unless you want to rightfully label the Climate cult as a religion. It is a religion but it is not the true source, global communism is the true source and they are manipulating this cult to achieve it.
Both forced religion and Communism are bane to me.
re forced religion, the world knows of bow both xianity and islam came with glove and sword. today, most do not know how the Native Americans of the Southwest were introduced to the Spanish glove and sword, then the infamous U.S.Indian Bureaudid thr same, with no sword.
I am a halfbreed Mojave, with a father who walked off and left the rez behind ...
re Communism ..I have endured a ‘priapus’ over Communism since the day that, I, a grade school student attending the elementary school on Otis AFB, when a crazdd cigar-chomping bearded Cuban and former Harvard law student and varsity baseball player, was aiming missiles at ME!
I believe 10 minutes after the anti-Communist laws were deep sixed, they started on America.
( no, I am not a Bircher.)
“Both forced religion and Communism are bane to me.”
Absolutely the same here.
I knew your heritage Mr. Smith. We have spoke before. :)
You may not know that to practise in the US, foreign educated doctors need to sit for and qualify American exams. And then when they reach the US, they have to re-qualify in a field different from what they qualified for back in their home country. So I have a friend who mastered in Opthalmology, in India, who was forced to move by circumstances to the US who is now a successful Neurophysician in Calif. Guy studied till his late 30's.
But his family is still together.
Bro, you’re out of it. You’re saying anyone who voluntarily gives their time and effort in service, without monetary compensation, is a slave?
Voluntary. Service. That’s a good thing.
Arguing that the US doesn't need more immigrants is something I can get behind. But saying Indian Hindus are bad people is ridiculous. And if the choice is hordes of illegals from the southern border vs. legal immigrants from India, I'd take the latter every time.
