Dutch Royal Prince Bernhard's membership to Hitler's Nazi party revealed

The Dutch Royal household has confirmed that Prince Bernhard - prince consort for decades after World War II and husband of former Queen Juliana - was a member of the Nazi party.

The membership card for the NSDAP, the German National Socialist Party attributed to Prince Bernhard, dates back to 1933.

Historian Flip Maarschalkerweert, former director of the Royal Household Archives, discovered the map while making an inventory of Prince Bernhard's private archives at the royal Soestdijk Palace, located in Utrecht.

Prince Bernhard - who died in 2004 aged 93 years old - had repeatedly denied having been a member of the Nazi party, after revelations first emerged in the media in 1996.

Didn't he serve in the SS, before he switched to British? It should be noted, he is German, not Netherlandish.

That’s what will happen next since living Nazis are dwindling, never mind that he’s dead, dig him up, and put him on trial. Sentencing a dead man to life would be a spectacle to behold.

Of course, they can always track down a boy born about 1933, a spry 90-year-old, who was a pin boy at a Nazi bowling alley, and put him on trial.

According to Wikipedia, once Germany invaded the Netherlands Bernhard fully supported the Allied cause. So he was no quisling. Perhaps he was more like our own Charles Lindbergh.

From Wikipedia:

“ At the outset of the Second World War, during the German invasion of the Netherlands, the Prince, carrying a machine gun, organised the palace guards into a combat group and shot at German warplanes.”

Yes, it's ridiculous. There are real threats now, as bad as Nazism, starting with the Democrat Party. They are the real Nazis. No doubt a lot of early followers of the Nazis had buyer's remorse. In 1933 no one could've guessed what the Nazi Party would serve up in the years that were to come. It was truly unimaginable.

Or maybe like Werner Von Braun. I simply don't know.

Was this leaked to take the sting off Trudeau for honoring a Nazi?

I think many people like this may have joined the NAZI party in the hopes of a new and better Gremany after the years of dysphoria after WW1.
Kinda like I felt in 1964 when I became a Democrat.

Sources insist that he only joined the Nazis because chicks liked the uniforms and bad boy vibe.

He was a Luffwath trained pilot and military officer. I lived in The Netherlands 3.5 years and everyone knew this. All the European nations had SS units as well.

That was certainly part of the overall picture. It wouldn't surprise me to learn of numerous European aristocrats who secretly held Nazi party membership, if only to hedge their bets. Up until Operation Barbarossa began to bleed the Wehrmacht badly, things looked pretty bleak in Western Europe.

So the card just turned up now?

People have been talking about Bernhard’s Nazi ties for ... like 50 years.

Forget his ties, you should see his cufflinks.

Bernard signed a safe pass for our Uncle who was OSS. Uncle was parachuted in and made his way to the Free Dutch because he knew Primce Bernard before the war since his dad worked for the royal family.

No country did more to protect it’s Jews during WW2 than Holland.

Denmark. Bulgaria maybe. Holland didn’t have the best record. But it was hard times everywhere

False. Anne Frank was hiding in the Netherlands and she got caught and gassed.

Now if you want to talk protection, Denmark carried all its Jewish population out of Denmark away from the Nazi’s murderous reach and then blew up its own naval vessels so the Nazis couldn’t use them.

More Righteous Gentiles from Poland at Yad Vashem than any other country.

This despite the fact that any Pole helping a Jewish person in any way would result in the death of that person, along with their entire family and any acquaitances.
