These Are the Republicans Who Could Be The Next Speaker of the House
Katie Couric Media ^ | October 4, 2023 | Tess Bonn

House Republicans are rushing to elect a new speaker after GOP Rep. Kevin McCarthy was dramatically ousted from his position on Tuesday in an unprecedented move. (For the record, he was the first speaker to ever be removed with a vote.)

...

Majority Leader Steve Scalise

As the new top-ranking House Republican, Steve Scalise is the most obvious choice to replace McCarthy, and he has already officially thrown his hat into the ring.

...

Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan

Jim Jordan was one of the House Republicans who defended McCarthy both ahead of and during the vote that ultimately ousted him. But now, Jordan’s hoping to be considered for the position.

...

Oklahoma Rep. Kevin Hern

Kevin Hern was initially nominated for the speakership in January by far-right GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert, who praised him as a “true consensus candidate.”

...

Florida Rep. Byron Donalds

GOP Rep. Andy Harris said on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, that he would like to see Rep. Byron Donalds as Speaker.

That would negate the idea of an election. The winning caucus has the mandate to implement their agenda and the speaker is supposed to make that happen.

I don't want Scalise, and I think Donalds is a real stretch. He'd mainly be a token black dude in that position, since he was only elected in 2020 and needs more seasoning to take any kind of leadership role.

Jim Jordan might be the one guy who has credibility and respect across the entire GOP caucus in the House.

Yes, but as lee martell writes in another thread on FR,

There have been several times when Jim Jordan was asked, begged even, to take an open leadership position. Everytime, he has said ‘No’, for his own reasons. This has gone on for years, before, during and after the embarrassing John Boehner Era.

I figure, Jim just didn’t want to be the top man who gets all the blame if things don’t go well. That is his choice. Best to be honest. Now, suddenly, Jim says that he wants to be Speaker. Is that right?

Elevating Byron Donalds would quash the party the eneMedia has planned for the democrat Jeffries. Redirecting the next “first” would be a game-changer. Wouldn’t it be awesome for a change to have the charge of “racism” to launch at detractors?

It was explained to me that The Speaker is necessarily party affiliated.
So I guess that does not matter.

Though I have seen some positive remarks toward the man by other posters here on occasion.

Thanks for your reply.

What was Gaetz’s plan after he started the shit?

He is not running, who does he support?

Rep Gaetz, Biden’s favorite Republican.

Guess you were not a fan of the Declaration of Independence either.

What was the Founding Father's plan after they got rid of George the Third?

Obviously they were a bunch of nutters and the British government's favorite colonists.

It's a legitimate question, but it's also a stretch to speculate about someone's motives like that. Jordan may very well have wanted to wait until the last of the "Ryan-Cantor-McCarthy" old guard was no longer in the running for these top GOP House positions.

Personally, I'd be 100% certain that Jordan would NOT have thrown his hat in the ring if McCarthy was going to try to get back into that Speaker position.

Depending on the Republican nominee we may end up voting for Kennedy. We are quite sick of the RINO Games.

The Virginia Plan.

Similar to our current system.

So what is Gaetz’s plan?
Apparently, he has none, other than being stroked by the mass media.
The Dems love his move.

Levin is an establishment shill. He’s part of the uniparty of “conservative think tanks” that have bilked small business donors for decades and never succeeded at anything.

Trump did all the work and they take the credit. They all to a man hated Trump in 2016 and continued to do so. It’s why they pushed DeSantis so much.
