Yes, but as lee martell writes in another thread on FR,

There have been several times when Jim Jordan was asked, begged even, to take an open leadership position. Everytime, he has said ‘No’, for his own reasons. This has gone on for years, before, during and after the embarrassing John Boehner Era.

I figure, Jim just didn’t want to be the top man who gets all the blame if things don’t go well. That is his choice. Best to be honest. Now, suddenly, Jim says that he wants to be Speaker. Is that right?

It's a legitimate question, but it's also a stretch to speculate about someone's motives like that. Jordan may very well have wanted to wait until the last of the "Ryan-Cantor-McCarthy" old guard was no longer in the running for these top GOP House positions.

Personally, I'd be 100% certain that Jordan would NOT have thrown his hat in the ring if McCarthy was going to try to get back into that Speaker position.
