A good history of the intentional duplicity of the Boehner-(could've been Cantor)-Ryan-McCarthy/McConnell leadership.

No, the Republicans did not “do nothing”; they did instead the opposite of what they promised in their election campaigns.

"Worse still, the professional Republicans acted as if they were the dog that just caught the car. Now they had no excuses, and as a result there was an exodus of retirements announced from the caucus of the professionally Republican to begin in 2018."

An inconvenient reality that agenda posters on FR leave out when they say "Trump lost the House in 2018", as though he were to blame.
No, Ryan and company decided to backstab the electorate who put them there, believing that they would follow through.

Immediately after the midterms, Republicans joined with Democrats to institutionalize homosexual marriage.

“A good history of the intentional duplicity of the Boehner-(could’ve been Cantor)-Ryan-McCarthy/McConnell leadership.”

Absolutely - and when the GOP goes after a candidate in the way they went after Trump (and Forbes, although he self-imploded for them), the reason is VERY SIMPLE:

1) They know that the candidate means what he says, and will try to carry out their (fake) promises.
2) They also know that the candidate might also win.

I’ve basically been saying the same thing in far fewer words for 50 years.

The system has been manipulated to make us think we have a choice and influence. We don’t.

Trump was the first with both intentions and power to change things. That’s why both parties hate him.

If Gowdy hates this, and Newt hates this, and the GOPe hates this, I am 100% on board.

If the house can’t figure out a way to shut down this border thru the power of the purse, then they are worthless imho.

And that’s just table stakes.

Listen to Biggs 7 minute floor speech, that tells me all I need to know.

While I agree with the author, the only problem is the democrats.

THEY never fail to implement their own campaign promises.

In the absence of Republican control, we get more socialism.

Meanwhile, when Republicans are in control, we get nothing, and those previous socialist laws, policies and rules are still with us, grinding us down.

It is intolerable either way.

Perhaps, but poor analysis that fails to consider that the GOP did not have the votes to overturn Obama’s veto.

Good article. It explains part of my frustration with the GOP. I assume for brevity sake, Sundance left out a lot of the other promises made and blind support for endless wars, the crushing of our rights and decay of the justice system. No mention of immigration either.

I want to see every RINO put thru hell on earth so they never want to be in Congress again. They are the priority. There needs to be consequences for their inaction, just like there were consequences for McCarthy’s inaction. My reasoning is simple and sound. We do not get different outcomes from RINOs. There is no tangible difference between RINOs and Democrats.

Do not trust a single word that they say. Observe the results they deliver.

According to multiple DC media sources, a quiet effort is underway by members of the professionally republican mindset to kick Matt Gaetz out of the House Republican caucus. However, the advocates worry they will be primaried by voters in their district, as the population of Republican voters supports Gaetz. It is a duplicitous dynamic.

A prime example of the battle between our elected officials and us, the constituency.

They promise us one thing to get elected and then throw us under the bus. Maybe they’ll start to take heed……..we mean what we say.

The worst of all of them was Ryan. When Ryan was Speaker and Trump was POTUS the RINOS did everything they could to not shut down the border. They also did everything they could to not get rid of Obamacare.
Meanwhile, all of us middle class people are paying more for health care that is not as good.

We’ve seen this same old movie countless times. The GOP says they need more seats to get past Democrat obstruction, and when they get more seats they do nothing. Rinse and repeat.

It is crystal clear that this party is devoid of any principles, convictions or core beliefs. All they want is more seats for themselves.

I didn't read the whole piece, and the author does raise some excellent points, but there's a major flaw in his main premise.

In 2009 72% of the country, and an even larger percentage of the Republican voters, did not want Obamacare. The govt takeover of healthcare was along purely ideological grounds.

The highlighted statement here may have been factually correct at the time, but anyone who is familiar with the U.S. health care system would have told you a much different story. In fact, I predicted in 2009 that ObamaCare would never be repealed even if the GOP gained full control of the U.S. government.

What I knew back in 2009 was that Americans actually love most of the provisions of ObamaCare. At least 85% of American voters -- and even a sizable majority of FREEPERS -- absolutely loved several particular provisions of the law, including: (1) the elimination of annual and lifetime caps on health coverage, and (2) the requirement for insurers to cover all pre-existing conditions.

The only thing these people really didn't like about ObamaCare was the individual mandate and the penalty associated with it. The total silence about the employer mandate, even among critics and political figures who publicly opposed the individual mandate, was absolutely deafening.

What these people didn't realize was that the pre-existing coverage provision and the elimination of annual/lifetime caps on coverage were the two provisions that would make "health insurance" increasingly expensive over time.

I don't blame the GOP for refusing to repeal ObamaCare. I blame them for using their phony opposition to it as a political and fundraising tool even though they knew damn well that they had no intention of ever repealing it. And I also blame every Republican political leader at the state level who refused to use their power in state office to fight these most destructive provisions of ObamaCare -- by at least giving people the option of buying health insurance with waivers for pre-existing conditions and/or annual/lifetime caps on coverage.
