Meanwhile, Kevin McCarthy has told his Republican conference that despite prior statements, he will not attempt to become the House Speaker again and will instead retire to his home district in California.
No one is quite sure what comes next; what is clear is that Gaetz has channeled the frustration of the Republican/MAGA base into an actionable result. This should not come as a surprise to the GOPe, although many of the cloistered clan continue pretending not to understand the dynamic at play.
Allow me to provide some simple clarity.
♦ In 2009 72% of the country, and an even larger percentage of the Republican voters, did not want Obamacare. The govt takeover of healthcare was along purely ideological grounds. For the 2010 midterm election, the professional Republican apparatus campaigned on this single issue – repeal Obamacare. The voters destroyed the Democrats and flipped 67 seats to Republican control. The professional Republicans wanted the House, frustrated American voters gave it to them.
The Republicans did nothing.
♦ In 2012, the professional Republicans campaigned on retaining the House and asked to begin a process of taking down the Democrat control of the Senate. Remember, it was a 60/40 Senate when the Obamacare boondoggle was begun. Keep the House, help us take Senate seats, and we will repeal Obamacare and balance the budget. That was the call of the 2012 professional Republicans. The voters delivered. The GOPe kept the house, took 6 seats in the Senate and introduced a wave of fresh Republican blood.
The Republicans did nothing.

No, the Republicans did not “do nothing”; they did instead the opposite of what they promised in their election campaigns.
An inconvenient reality that agenda posters on FR leave out when they say "Trump lost the House in 2018", as though he were to blame.
No, Ryan and company decided to backstab the electorate who put them there, believing that they would follow through.
Immediately after the midterms, Republicans joined with Democrats to institutionalize homosexual marriage.
“No, Ryan and company decided to backstab the electorate who put them there, believing that they would follow through.”
You’re correct. They never REALLY wanted to repeal Obamacare or overturn Roe vs Wade or secure the border (to name just three examples).
They were all playactors who helped the Democrats at every turn.
Excellent summary of establishment Republican betrayals. Thanks
“ No, the Republicans did not “do nothing”; they did instead the opposite of what they promised in their election campaigns.”
McCarthy broke every single promise he made to get the job. Every single one.
Now a bunch of people here are mad that the consequences, of which he was warned about loudly and repeatedly, were finally imposed.

“A good history of the intentional duplicity of the Boehner-(could’ve been Cantor)-Ryan-McCarthy/McConnell leadership.”
Absolutely - and when the GOP goes after a candidate in the way they went after Trump (and Forbes, although he self-imploded for them), the reason is VERY SIMPLE:
1) They know that the candidate means what he says, and will try to carry out their (fake) promises.
2) They also know that the candidate might also win.
The GOP is worse than useless.
The system has been manipulated to make us think we have a choice and influence. We don’t.
Trump was the first with both intentions and power to change things. That’s why both parties hate him.
Excellent read
BTTT
If Gowdy hates this, and Newt hates this, and the GOPe hates this, I am 100% on board.
If the house can’t figure out a way to shut down this border thru the power of the purse, then they are worthless imho.
And that’s just table stakes.
Listen to Biggs 7 minute floor speech, that tells me all I need to know.
While I agree with the author, the only problem is the democrats.
THEY never fail to implement their own campaign promises.
In the absence of Republican control, we get more socialism.
Meanwhile, when Republicans are in control, we get nothing, and those previous socialist laws, policies and rules are still with us, grinding us down.
It is intolerable either way.

Perhaps, but poor analysis that fails to consider that the GOP did not have the votes to overturn Obama’s veto.
I want to see every RINO put thru hell on earth so they never want to be in Congress again. They are the priority. There needs to be consequences for their inaction, just like there were consequences for McCarthy’s inaction. My reasoning is simple and sound. We do not get different outcomes from RINOs. There is no tangible difference between RINOs and Democrats.
Do not trust a single word that they say. Observe the results they deliver.
The “on” button activates the automated controls that fly the craft to a predetermined invasion point.
The “off” button does nothing. It is just there to give the occupants the false belief that they have some control of the process.
This is a perfect metaphor for the Democrat and Republican parties.
“Perhaps, but poor analysis that fails to consider that the GOP did not have the votes to overturn Obama’s veto.”
That obstacle vanished after January 2017. And they STILL did nothing. They got buddy John McCain to first, get Trump embroiled in controversy with the Steele Dossier, then kill full Obamacare repeal.
Etc. Etc.
Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States. What bribe money?
