Kevin McCarthy failed in an initial vote to block an effort to oust him by Rep. Matt Gaetz, putting his position as House speaker in peril.
Gaetz’s "motion to vacate" the speakership will now head for an official vote.
To prevail, McCarthy or his foes will need a majority of those voting, not just Republicans. Typically Republicans can lose no more than four GOP votes on party-line votes when all members are present. Democratic leaders recommended Tuesday that colleagues vote against saving McCarthy.
I doubt there are many here who are happy with the status Quo. A LOT of freepers have been screaming about the runaway spending since 2017, when we thought we finally had a majority in the house/senate/white house, and could actually cut spending, but instead They all kept spending more and more.
Now we are stuck with a bare house majority, and a democrat senate and presidency, mostly because of our previous President, who did nothing to stop spending. We are NOT going to get what we want, and we are lucky to even be able to generate house spending bills as a starting point, except we have this small group of “republicans” who don’t want to even do that, and want to give the entire government over to the democrats so they can complain more and win more support from all those republicans who got tired of winning.

RINO’s will be sad. I’m not, but they will be.
What channel are you watching?
I bet the people largely support him. No one thinks congress is working. Explain to me why if you want want to support paying the troops you have to cough over X amount to Ukraine; or if you want to secure the border you have to cough up x amount to Jack Smith? Explain!
Less than 10 yeas to go.
Actually, it is Matt Gaetz that needs democrats to vote with him. The Republican caucus is voting for McCarthy. The few who aren’t need at least 207 democrats to vote with them to have any chance.
McCarthy only needs a few democrats to decide not to show up for the vote.
It looks like he’s out.
Not watching.
I suspect this is all Kabuki Theater, and in the end, McCarthy will still be speaker.
he’s been trying to pass bills for months, but people like Matt Gaetz have voted with Democrats to defeat those bills.
?? they’ve already lined up with Gaetz.
He also taught us that you win about 5% of the battles that Trump fights.

You are blaming Trump for not stopping spending. That is a reach. The house would not pass his priorities or budgets no matter how much time he spent conerencing with them. He had to swallow lots of spending he deplored just to get the military and National priorities funded. McCain shived him & the USA by protecting Obamacare with resultant costs.
There's no teaming up with the Democrats in this effort to remove McCarthy. they see an opportunity for chaos, and they are playing along.
I think I would probably be put into your second group, which I interpret to be idealists. But I was in the first category for decades and have been disappointed without respite. So, faced with an unpalatable reality or a dreamy idealism, I've decided to go with the fantasy for a while. Believe it or not, it brings me more joy.
All this could have been avoided had McCarthy kept his promises to his Conference. Are you happy with 25 years of CR’s and Omnibus bills?
This is a great example of one of the groups I have talked about elsewhere, the group that lives in an alternative reality where candidates fail not because they are horribly bad candidates, but because somehow they don’t get “enough support”. Candidates that I’m sure you sent lots of money to, and that all the other people who say this also sent lots of money to, because we all know that the only way a candidate wins is if they pay more than the other candidate for the job.
And nice to acknowledge that you seem to oppose the idea of banning abortion, I guess now that Trump is on the pro-abortion side, it’s hard not to be.
A lot of RATs not showing up to vote including Pelosi.
Gaetz and the RATS win! Liz Cheney pops the champagne.
Done!
