Gingrich says House GOP should expel ‘anti-Republican’ Gaetz
The Hill ^ | 10/03/2023 | SARAH FORTINSKY

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) on Tuesday called on House Republicans to expel Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) and defeat his motion to oust Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) from his post.

In a scathing op-ed published in The Washington Post, Gingrich attacked the Florida Republican as “anti-Republican” and said Gaetz was engaging in “childish behavior” and “has become actively destructive to the conservative movement. “Gaetz’s motion to remove McCarthy should be swiftly defeated, and then he should be expelled from the House Republican Conference. House Republicans have far more important things to do than entertain one member’s ego,” Gingrich wrote.

“Gaetz has gone beyond regular drama. He is destroying the House GOP’s ability to govern and draw a sharp contrast with the policy disasters of the Biden administration,” he wrote.

I’m anti-Republican too, Newt. Should I be eviscerated? There’s a big difference between being a Republican, and being a Conservative Republican. The two don’t mix in today’s GOPe.

Agree. McCarthy made promises in order to gain the speakership. He deviated from that...this is the consequence.

That is a very powerful state from President Trump. Indeed, we must ask ourselves- can’t we all just get along and fight the Democrats?

Once again, we find ourselves at an impasse when a handful of true Conservatives attempt to actually honor their pledges as well as the gop platform. And once again 209 moderates stand in the breach of resolve.

I second Gingrich here. Gaetz is nothing, but trouble. I guess he is getting good money from the press and does not care about us anymore.

Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States.

— Goal #15 of the 45 communist goals for the USA
What does “centrist” mean at this point?

I say there’s a very well-defined line between leftist and pro-US-Constitution. And politicians are either one or the other.

Gaetz is either going to hand the Democrats the speaker gavel now, or hand them the majority next year. This kind of childish silliness is what makes people think Republicans can’t handle leading.
Fact 1) Democrats control the Senate
Fact 2) Democrats control the White House

Gaetz can huff and puff and stomp his feet, but fiscal responsibility isn’t coming back as long as facts 1 & 2 are true. Deal with reality, not dreams.

Newt has a solid polling organization and knows what people want to hear right now. Gaetz wants to hear himself talk and loves being in the spotlight, but he can’t lead.
