During interviews with NBC News and NPR released on Monday, recently-retired Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley stated that no one has been punished for how the war in Afghanistan ended, but “where people are looking for a pound of flesh. I think they’re looking in the wrong idea here.”
During the interview with NBC, “Nightly News” host Lester Holt asked, “Has anyone been held accountable [for] what went wrong with the Afghanistan withdrawal?”
Milley responded, “If you mean has anyone been specifically punished in some way, no. But, look, Lester, that war didn’t end the way anybody wanted it to end. And I can tell you, with 100% certainty, that thousands of people, from privates, to generals, to people in the interagency, did their very best that they could under the circumstances to make sure that we executed the president’s orders. Wars don’t end because of events in the last ten or fifteen days, any war is the cumulative effect of many, many decisions along the way. This was a 20-year war. There were decisions made over 20 years that landed us where we did.”

????
Those are Japanese soldiers.
Well Ike did win it in the European Theater.
What consequences has anyone from DOD or the US intelligence agencies every faced for their mistakes? They have managed to get tens of thousands of GI’s and American citizens killed through their screw ups and nothing, no firings, no disciplinary actions, nothing. When you work for a company that will allow you to make mind blowing disasters without penalty you tend not to put forth your best efforts.
Vietnam, 911, Without Reagan’s guidance they would have been content to fight the Cold War another 100 yrs, Iraq WMD’s, 20 years in Afghanistan with not a clue in hell of how to win, then the disastrous withdrawal. Of course this prancing prince wants no one to look for a pound of flesh it might expose some nasty-nasty things him and his cohorts have done over the years.
I would have thought that his old team mate Rachel Levine would..watch his back!
Thank you! I needed a laugh today.
i prefer his head on a plate...
he’s got a couple of pounds of flesh...... the rot starts at the top.
When reelected, President Trump can reduce Milley in rank from General (4 star) to Major General (2 star), even in retirement.
What happened wasn't the culmination of any long program or distant decision, it was the deliberate abrogation of a signed treaty in order to deny Trump credit for negotiating an end to the thing. It was political grandstanding, not sober policy. Zero combat deaths in 20 months became 13 in a single day and absolutely nobody took responsibility, nor for the mountain of equipment left behind when the plans for evacuation that were made were thrown into the trash by political "experts".
This isn't anybody's "pound of flesh", it's called "accountability". There wasn't any and continues not to be any.
Just so long as I don’t have to wash the plate.😃
Well, hence forth and evermore he will be known as General 13
This horrible man.
Right.......he should talk.......humph.
Thinking same thing ........ is there any trusted leadership in the DOD anymore ???
Purge these bastards before we really need a valid defense capability ..........
