During interviews with NBC News and NPR released on Monday, recently-retired Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley stated that no one has been punished for how the war in Afghanistan ended, but “where people are looking for a pound of flesh. I think they’re looking in the wrong idea here.”
During the interview with NBC, “Nightly News” host Lester Holt asked, “Has anyone been held accountable [for] what went wrong with the Afghanistan withdrawal?”
Milley responded, “If you mean has anyone been specifically punished in some way, no. But, look, Lester, that war didn’t end the way anybody wanted it to end. And I can tell you, with 100% certainty, that thousands of people, from privates, to generals, to people in the interagency, did their very best that they could under the circumstances to make sure that we executed the president’s orders. Wars don’t end because of events in the last ten or fifteen days, any war is the cumulative effect of many, many decisions along the way. This was a 20-year war. There were decisions made over 20 years that landed us where we did.”

How many people talk about Mattis these days? How about no one.
In a month or two, no one will even remember the name of this self serving jerk.
Bye Millie, soon to be what’s his name?
What total and complete BS. So according to Milley, a general (or president) can make whatever idiotic decision he wants in the moment and he’s not responsible for the consequences, because somehow unrelated events of the past are to blame. That would be like saying that a pilot who impulsively decided to crash the plane, killing a bunch of the passengers in the process, is not responsible for the outcome because the airplane had some longstanding maintenance problems.
“Ah, but he has no shame. Or honor.”
Matching both his ethics and intellect.
I’ve never been to Afghanistan, but just looking at a topographical map, its pretty clear that once Baghram Airbase was surrendered, Kabul was very precarious and any defenders there would have no initiative or room for maneuver whatsoever.
Its like the French seizing the low ground at Dien Bien Phu
“Milley will get his just rewards.”
To what extent was it Milley’s fault? Biden ordered the quick withdrawal, didn’t he?
“Not a word about how many America and were left there to be tortured.”
Which is why Milley is apoplectic in his comments about seeking out the pound of flesh.
Pardon Me Milley, but you weigh a damned sight more than the pound of flesh you mention....
True. But how we ended where we did was done since Biden took office. A successful Trump Withdrawal Plan was thrown out then. Concentrate there for starters. Somebodies took a great plan and totally f*cked it up - and likely on purpose.
Fire and prosecute the stupid, malignant b@st@rds for gross incompetence at least - and likely treason for some!
If you look at his top four medals, they are “generals’ medals”, medals that generals give each other for nebulous things like “. . . Providing great service in his role as . . .”
Nothing to do with combat or wars.
Excellent contrast. Here’s another: during WWII there were seven four-star generals/admirals and 11 million servicemen. Today there are 46 four-stars for 1.3 million servicemen. Under the 47 four-stars there are hundreds of other generals.
The military is a business due to the military-industrial complex.
Miley is guilty of worse crimes than the Afghanistan debacle. He’s a straight up traitor who actually already admitted to his treason so no need really even for a military tribunal but Trump will give him one.
War is a racket.
“Wars don’t end because of events in the last ten or fifteen days”
Dumshit never heard of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
HEY generalloserboy how about you and your family all fly to that $}{!T}{0£€ in the sandbox and stand there while the local barbarians shoot, stab and dismember all of you.
Then tell us how you feel...
Tell that to the J6 POW's...
It says it all a hero and a zero that has knee pad medals.
I figure the mistake we made in Afghanistan was that we armed and trained the wrong gender over there. I think if we would have armed and trained the ladies and let them fight for their freedom after they had been subjugated, demeaned and denied their basic human rights for centuries there would have been a different outcome to that war.
Spot on it’s all about bling.
