California governor Gavin Newsom mocked Florida governor Ron DeSantis on live television for taking the “bait” in debating him while calling DeSantis a “distracted” candidate.
“Why is he doing it? That’s the right question. He’s running — I think, I’m not sure after tonight — but currently he’s running for president of the United States,” Newsom said in an interview Wednesday.
The California governor’s remarks come on the heels of the second GOP debate, in Simi Valley, Calif., where he said he wasn’t particularly impressed with DeSantis or the rest of the Republican presidential field. Newsom attended the event.
Newsom and DeSantis are set to debate in Georgia on November 30. When asked by Fox 11 Los Angeles news anchor Elex Michaelson about the possibility of DeSantis’s still being a candidate by then, Newsom said, “Part of me wonders.”
“The fact that he took this debate, the fact that he took the bait in relation to this debate, shows that he’s completely unqualified to be president of the United States,” he said.
“I mean why is he debating a guy who’s not even running for president when he’s running for president?” Newsom said. “He’s showing up at the Reagan Library, hallowed ground, and he puts out an ad today not for his presidential campaign, to promote a debate against the governor of California. I mean this guy’s distracted, so I don’t know that he has it in his heart. I think — here’s my personal opinion about Ron DeSantis — he regrets running for president.”

Better distracted than demented.
Apparently you have more hate for DeSantis than for Newsom. Newsom challenged DeSantis to a debate; DeSantis accepted; Newsom knows he would get his ass kicked thirteen different ways from Saturday, so he’s cowardly trying to cover his ass for cowardly backing out.
Why shouldn’t the governor of the second largest Republican state (about to become first largest) take on the governor of the largest Democrat State? Why shouldn’t DeSantis get some free airtime and prove his one-on-one debate chops and promote/defend his conservative views? The only reason NOT to is if you’re afraid you’ll LOSE the debate, and end up letting the other guy promote HIS views

He’s got a point, as it shows just how DESPERATE Rove is.
I’d say two governors or two polar opposite states debating policy is a pretty good debate to have.
Newsom’s agenda IS biden’s agenda.

I’m not sure of the proper psychological name of it, but I have known people who have this sort of interchange:
“I think we should order a pizza for dinner.”
“I agree.”
“You’re an idiot. Pizza for dinner would be the world decision ever.”
What we actually have here is:
“Hey, Ron, I think we should debate.”
“I agree.”
“You’re an idiot. That is the worst decision ever.”

Correct, Newsom got his bluff called so now he’s calling it “bait” so he has an excuse to bail when DeSantis responds.
DeSantis has been challenging Gruesome to debate long before he threw his hat in the ring

I don’t doubt Newsom chickened out; he’s a loser. Buy WHY would DeSantis spend money running ads about debating someone that’s not even running for president. Seems a bit distracted to me (and sounds like he knows he’s going no place fast against DJT)
