Dianne Feinstein Death: Gavin Newsom Has Tricky Task to Announce Replacement
New York Post ^ | Sep. 29, 2023 | Samuel Chamberlain

The death of Sen. Dianne Feinstein on Thursday night has left California Gov. Gavin Newsom with the job of appointing a replacement to serve the remaining 15 months of her term — a choice he hoped never to have to make.

Newsom initially promised in 2021 to pick a black woman to replace Feinstein if she was unable to remain in the Senate through January 2025. That was in response to the outcry from some quarters after he appointed then-California Secretary of State Alex Padilla to replace Sen. Kamala Harris after her election as vice president.

After Feinstein announced earlier this year that she would not run for another term, three prominent House Democratic lawmakers — Reps. Adam Schiff, Katie Porter and Barbara Lee — rushed to take her place, setting up a bitter and expensive primary fight.

I do not know why you are doing this They have dated lots of black men (and some white, so what) and married one. I tried to post something humorous but you have your dander up. I’m off the thread. Have fun.

Newsom stopped taking calls for Markle months ago. She is a pest to people she wants to use.

Caitlyn Jenner would be an interesting choice. Not exactly a Kardashian, but close enough. If it can identify as a woman, and dems can’t explain what a woman is anyway, how dare they object to this choice!

She can be just as feckless in the US Senate and Seniors Diaper Club as in the house. It’s only fair she be given the chance to die in office, too, several decades from now..

Well it was actually the Folsom International Garden Club and Trans Chorale Tabernacle Choir, but the prison works, too.

Obviously, Newsome has already cogitated this event, knowing her state of decline, so any fan dance he may want to put on now is distraction to hide his actual motives.

Easy. Pick an elder politician who isn’t interested in staying in Washington a long time, but would like to have U.S. Senator on his/her tombstone. Then let the voters decide next year which gem California will be sending to Washington for the next several decades.

If dummy is smart, he’ll choose from one of the illegals as they come ashore from the Rio Grande. The first one he “fist bumps” is the winner.

What is tricky about selling the seat to the highest D bidder? Isn’t that the way it usually goes in blue states?

He’s not picking from the candidates but will he demand the appointed senator not run for re-election? Anything to keep Schiff out of the senate please.

I had heard that the reason that she didn’t retire is that Republicans on the judiciary committee wouldn’t have agreed to seat her replacement, which would potentially hold up of Biden’s communist judicial appointments in committee. Whether this is true or actually holds who knows.

So, diversity first, relevant experience last.

The best thing for the Democrats would be to give Kamala Harris the vacant Senate seat. She’s been a complete failure as VP, and they really need to push her out of the way for 2024.

But that would be a painful and humiliating demotion for the lovely Kamala. I don’t see how they could convince her to go with it.

Here's how the Dems sell it: They really play up "how important this particular senate seat is." They will publicly implore Kamala to take the job (while paying her a boatload of money under the table to do it.) They emphasize that she' a native Californian, the former State Attorney General, and current Vice President, making her the best possible choice for the job. Kamala will "reluctantly" give up the Vice Presidency and take the seat "for the good of the country."

Everybody gets what they want. The Democrats will have removed her from the ticket without being portrayed as racist. Kamala saves face, and is hailed as a hero by the Democrats and the media for the "sacrifice" she's made.
