Fox News personality Dana Perino — who served as one of three co-moderators during the second Republican primary debate at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, Wednesday — came under fire after interjecting during the debate, seemingly going to bat for former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley by thanking her husband for his military service — a possible retort to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
During the debate, Perino told the candidates they were “auditioning for the job as president of the United States” and noted that the “world’s problems land in the Oval Office.”
“During the presidential debates in the year 2000, neither Al Gore nor George W. Bush was asked about al-Qaeda. Yet, just one year later, al-Qaeda’s attack on September 11 claimed nearly 3,000 lives,” she said, asking South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott what has prepared him to protect the nation, given that he has no executive branch experience. She then directed the question to former Vice President Mike Pence before the debate went to commercial break, prompting moderators to move away from the topic.

Perino's comment about Haley's husband was absolutely a pitch to promote Haley and to tamp down DeSantis' statement about his own military service overseas.

According to Nielsen, the second Republican presidential primary debate on Fox Business Network and Univision averaged 11.8 million viewers. This is down from the 12.8 million viewers who watched the first Republican debate last month on Fox News.
The debate was the most-watched cable news program of the night, and it was also the most-watched non-sports program on television. However, it was down from the 13.3 million viewers who watched the first Democratic debate on NBC last month.
The debate was also down from the 13.6 million viewers who watched the second Republican debate in 2016.
The decline in viewership for the Republican debates may be due to a number of factors, including the absence of former President Donald Trump, the large number of candidates in the race, and the fact that the debates are being held so early in the election cycle.

Perino has always struck me as vapid and empty. Her limited good looks are disappearing with age.
