Pentagon determines Ukraine training and support exempt from potential government shutdown
CNN ^ | 9/21/23 | Orin Leiberman

The Pentagon has determined that the training and support of Ukrainian forces is exempt from a potential government shutdown, according to the Defense Department, and will continue even in the increasingly likely event that Congress fails to pass a spending bill in the coming days.

The determination allows critical elements of American support for Kyiv, such as the training of Ukrainian forces and the ongoing transfer of weapons to Ukraine, to proceed in the midst of an ongoing counteroffensive.

We pretend that the US is not in a war with Russia, but we are. We’ve been trying to avoid this scenario since 1945, but here we are.

Vance, 28 other lawmakers say Biden Ukraine funding request ‘makes a mockery’ of Congress
Republicans demand transparency and accountability
Seek accounting for security, economic and humanitarian aid to Ukraine

US ‘cannot afford’ the level of support being given to Ukraine: Kevin Roberts

Ahead of Ukrainian President Zelenskyy’s visit to Washington, D.C., a group of 29 Republican lawmakers has vowed to oppose further funding for Ukraine.

In a scathing letter to the White House, six senators and 23 House members said they reject President Biden’s request for $24 billion in additional security, economic and humanitarian aid to Ukraine.

The lawmakers railed against the Biden administration for a lack of clarity over how the more than $100 billion in funding Congress has already approved has been spent.

And they said Biden’s demand for an increase in defense spending on the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative 15 times greater than what Congress authorized “makes a mockery” of the legislative process.

“The vast majority of Congress remains unaware of how much the United States has spent to date in total on this conflict, information which is necessary for Congress to prudently exercise its appropriations power,” the letter states. “It is difficult to envision a benign explanation for this lack of clarity.”

The letter was spearheaded by Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, and Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas. It was addressed to Shalanda Young, the director of the White House Office of Management and Budget.

It’s all fake.

They can have a “shut down” but the only things affected will be the things that hurt the right constituencies to achieve political outcomes.

I don’t see how the Pentagon get’s to make that call in our system of government.

Seems that these two sentences in Article 2 of the Constitution give that decision to Congress.

To raise and support Armies, but no Appropriation of Money to that Use shall be for a longer Term than two Years;

No Money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law; and a regular Statement and Account of the Receipts and Expenditures of all public Money shall be published from time to time.

True. Of interest is the fact that RUSSIA IS NOT AT WAR WITH US.

the Constitution, upon which micturate every day,
says their ONLY role is to protect the borders
and the American — not Ukranian — people.

But THEY bow to Nazis, they bow to psychopaths
who play the piano with their penis,
as they waste every resource the Republic HAD.

They belong in GITMO.

That's the key point.

It won't happen, but imagine Congress expressly forbidding the DoD from any allocation of funding or resources re: Ukraine, and the DoD does it anyway. Then what?

If this is war with Russia then it is a lot easier than I ever thought it would be, none of us are even having to show up, much less get killed.

In a rare action, I actually clicked over to the CNN story (Lord forgive me), and sorry, folks. This story looks like something CNN would just make up and pretend its actually policy.

First, one has to assume that CNN is reporting the truth.

Once you get past that, we have one spokes dude who contradicted himself from his last statement. But nothing to back it up; no law, no rules. just some dude being quoted by CNN.

Fact is, the primary thing holding up the budget (a.k.a. shutdown theater) is funding for Ukraine.

Thus the story on its face doesn’t make any sense.

just my $0.02

The administration of this country is subservient to UK. We have a government of the Ukraine, for the Ukraine, and by the Ukraine. Our tax dollars go first to Ukraine.

Such is the power of blackmail. joe still hasn’t sent them enough money to prevent Z from telling all he knows. About 113 billion so far, and don’t forget the 50 or so billion he will demand for “rebuilding” when the war is over.
