In the first photo below, it appears a guy and a gal are walking up to the "monument." They couldn't find two guys holding hands in Palm Springs???

As I noted yesterday, if people are ANGRY about an art work, then the work is clearly VERY EFFECTIVE, as evoking emotion is the primary purpose of art.
In this case, people are being confronted with just what they support, which is why the anger is so great.
