Luther, fear not, the era of government-run grocery stores may not be as dead and buried as it seems. The city of Chicago — already doing such a terrific job on handling crime, poverty, homelessness, and unemployment — is exploring the possibility of establishing municipally owned grocery stores.
City officials contend that a city-run grocery store would be better because they wouldn’t have to worry about making money. And Mayor Brandon Johnson is enthusiastically embracing the idea...
...
Now, no doubt Chicago’s city-run grocery stores would have the same service, efficiency, and quality that Chicago residents have come to expect from the local government of a city ranked 149th in its financial stability, 67th in its education system, 71st in its health-care system, 80th in its public safety, 129th in the quality of its economy, or, credit where it’s due, 37th in its infrastructure and pollution. (That’s out of 149 U.S. cities.)

There is a reason that dems want everything race based,EXCEPT WHO PAYS THE TAXES..... Dems don’t want the “”majority “” taxpayers to know what their money is being wasted on.....
This will be a return to the old West general store model.
One day those””paying “” people may say to heck with it,I’m going rogue and joining the majority......If no-one pays taxes will the jails hold everyone?????
I recall an article where some store store invented the shopping cart and to have customers get their own stuff. Nobody did it. Until they started offering 10% off.
And the woman who created this legacy now has a job, teaching municipal government to the idiot children at the Harvard day care Center.
“...store invented the shopping cart and to have customers get their own stuff...”

Daley was a great mayor though Dem to the core. At least citizens and businesses got something for the graft they paid him. My dad was one of them.
This guy is a moron.
What a crock. Steal taxpayers money for communism, and expect to lose money. If I was a taxpayer there, I’d be livid.
The Constitution limits the powers of the federal government. It doesn't prevent states from doing this. And cities derive their authority from state legislatures.
It may he separate from normal grocery stores but will be totally equal

Prediction on cycle of stupid:
Step 1: City government spends millions to build and open government run grocery stores in the ghetto
Step 2: “the community “ steals everything that isn’t nailed to the floor
Step 3:CPD brought in to provide security and stop the looting
Step 4: Inevitable violent confrontation between junkie thief and popo resulting in junkie catching lead poisoning
Step 5: “Community “ bum rushes” the place and burns it to the ground.
Step 6: “Community “ cries about food deserts and underserved neighborhood
Step 7: Rinse and repeat

Thanks for the info! Found the article above about the founder of Piggly-Wiggly: Clarence Saunders.
Pretty amazing his rag to riches to rags to riches...(4 or 5 times!) story. He built one store that was ENTIRELY automated, like a giant vending machine. But he built all of the equipment himself and it didn’t work very well and failed.
Somebody slept through their economics classes.
Takes money to ship.
Takes money to buy the stuff from the distributor.
Takes money to run the building.
Takes money to pay the workers.
If they try it, we need lots of cameras to show what happens.
I remember seeing gov’t stores in Russia in the early 90s, just like your pic, they were mostly empty.
The only ones with lots of stuff were the ones where only foreign currency could be used to pay.
See, you bring up a legit point. By the time they argue over this....sugar products will be out....booze/smokes will be out, and half of the people who might use such a place...won’t be agreeable to the city running it.
I might ask...who will be the managers of such a place and how ‘connected’ to the mayor will they be?
Govt run grocery stores are always very quickly depleted of... well, all the groceries.
Hah! It's Chicago man, the city that elects festering rectum boils for mayors.
It's not like it's some civilized city.
Great idea! Why hasn't someone thought of this before?
Regards,
A FReeper predicted this just days ago.
WHAT could possibly go wrong with government controlling your grocery shopping?
And yet some people wonder why I keep telling everyone that the Mark of the anti-Christ Beast WILL come halfway through the 7 years of ‘Peace and Security’.
