During an appearance on MSNBC’s “The Sunday Show,” House Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said former President Donald Trump is sick and knows he is responsible for the January 6, 2021 riot at the Capitol after he blamed her.
Anchor Jonathan Capehart asked, “The former president at the United States, Donald Trump, on Meet the Press, says this, and I’m quoting you directly, him directly, ‘Nancy Pelosi is responsible for January 6.’ He is blaming you for the attack on the Capitol that he instigated. Your response?”

I have zero respect for Pelosi. She is lying trash. But Trump was the C-in-C of the DC National Guard at the time. He didn’t need the Speaker’s or anyone else’s permission to call out the Guard.
Pelosi might have said she doesn’t want the Guard. But it wasn’t her call.
Bottom line, as I see it: the Guard issue is a wash. Both sides could have done better.
(Hindsight, I know.)

Either the DC mayor or Speaker Pelosi could have accepted PDJT’s days-earlier offer of using national guard troops. Both refused.
PDJT could not by himself have foisted troops onto the DC mall on January 6.

The president is the C-in-C of the DC National Guard and commands it through the Secretary of Defense. But the president has the final authority, and is quite able to active the Guard in his own. It’s a unique arrangement as all other Guard units are normally under the control of a governor
