Donald Trump on Sunday said it was “my decision” to believe that the 2020 presidential election was “rigged” — saying he didn’t respect the aides and lawyers who’d told him he’d lost.
The former president, 77, was asked by NBC’s Kristen Welker on “Meet the Press” why he opted to ignore his “most senior lawyers” and campaign staffers about the election results.
“Because I didn’t respect them,” Trump replied.
Welker later asked the Republican frontrunner in the presidential primary whether he was “calling the shots … ultimately?”
“As to whether or not I believed it was rigged? Oh, sure,” Trump answered. “It was my decision. But I listened to some people.”

Last month, Trump attorney John Lauro publicly emphasized that his client’s actions to thwart the election results were done under the advice of counsel.
“Everything that President Trump did was with the advice of lawyers and counsel,” Lauro told NBC. “That’s an absolute defense to a criminal case.”
“This is a protocol you can follow — it’s legal.” ***
“Trump just threw his whole ‘following my lawyers’ advice’ defense under the bus. No, let me correct that: — not just under the bus but under a roaring, speeding, ginormous freight train . . . .,” Harvard University professor emeritus Laurence Tribe***
“And here is where Trump loses his defense that he relied on his lawyers,” attorney and former Rep. Barbara Comstock (R-Va.) said.
There goes the “advice of counsel” defense.
Seriously, if your defense *** is “@MZHemingway wrote a book” you know you’re going to lose at trial. https://t.co/8bfmW5Ku0S

Completely agree with President Trump. Most of these aids had to willfully avoid the evidence of the stolen election. It was absolutely everywhere. Most of them were younger, and only worried about future career viability. In other words, they sold out for money. The very definition of a whore.
So don’t try to say the Trump’s advisers “knew” he was going to lose. It was the most suspect election I’ve ever seen with all sorts of shady crap going on, but only in the swing states. Even Lil Stevie Wonder could see the fraud and corruption, FFS!
Fun factoid. Did you know that it’s not the job of a president to do everything his aids say, or to agree with them?
Trump is talking himself straight into prison.
“I thought his entire defense rested on the idea that he was acting on the advice of counsel?”
His defense might rely on the (ignored) evidence that the election was rigged. In other words, that it was reasonable for him to disbelieve the result.
I think many knowledgeable people thought it might have been rigged but felt that it was impossible to prove in a reasonable amount of time.
That the opposition is jailing and indicting people is proof enough the POWERs that be know they cooked an election installing the most popular president in history.
They’re trying to force Trump off the chess board..signed cap’n obvious.
Are you kidding me RN? The article quotes that old geezer and conspiracy theorest Laurence Tribe like its actual fact, and you just regurgitate it, and we are supposed to buy it?
Seriously?
>> they told him before the election and election when he was still in the lead that he was going to lose.
Because they knew that the battleground would all flip in a consistent manner after the suspended overnight counting? If that were the case, then they would all have to know about the nature of the steal.
Thanks for your opinion.
Opus?
Whad did u post here under, before? What wuz yer FR Nick?
So getting “convicted” on false charges is one’s own fault? Wow; that’s a vindication of the USSR’s show trials right there.
So, is there a tag team thing going on, to spam FR with stuff to try to spin things against Trump?
I guess it’s because it’s so hard to defend desanctimonious with all his failures, and illusions of grandeur that he’s now having, with his comments like
‘I will be the president!’
“Yet another example of Trump burying himself.”
Trump did not say he did not rely on his lawyers. He just said he did not rely on some of his lawyers.
Anyone who truly believes, in his heart, that Biden won 81 million votes is about as stupid as Biden is.
Is it possible he’s trying to offer some legal cover to his co-defendants?
“I guarantee that the prosecution will use this exchange against Trump”
Good. Trump Poll Numbers will go up another 4-5 points.
I guarantee that the Meatball won’t win the Nomination.
“At what point does this cross the line to narcissism?”
I went to bed that night wondering why the counting was called off simultaneouleously in those battle ground states and the next day I declared the election had been rigged and stolen.
Am I a narcissist?
blah blah blah these were the same bush leftovers / deep state affiliated Bill Barr types that for 4 years constantly told Trump he couldn’t do stuff that he wanted to do.
“ And he wonders why top lawyers won’t take him as a client.”
No one wonders that. They all end up arrested.
He didn’t change his mind.
