Donald Trump on Sunday said it was “my decision” to believe that the 2020 presidential election was “rigged” — saying he didn’t respect the aides and lawyers who’d told him he’d lost.
The former president, 77, was asked by NBC’s Kristen Welker on “Meet the Press” why he opted to ignore his “most senior lawyers” and campaign staffers about the election results.
“Because I didn’t respect them,” Trump replied.
Welker later asked the Republican frontrunner in the presidential primary whether he was “calling the shots … ultimately?”
“As to whether or not I believed it was rigged? Oh, sure,” Trump answered. “It was my decision. But I listened to some people.”

Last month, Trump attorney John Lauro publicly emphasized that his client’s actions to thwart the election results were done under the advice of counsel.
“Everything that President Trump did was with the advice of lawyers and counsel,” Lauro told NBC. “That’s an absolute defense to a criminal case.”
“This is a protocol you can follow — it’s legal.” ***
“Trump just threw his whole ‘following my lawyers’ advice’ defense under the bus. No, let me correct that: — not just under the bus but under a roaring, speeding, ginormous freight train . . . .,” Harvard University professor emeritus Laurence Tribe***
“And here is where Trump loses his defense that he relied on his lawyers,” attorney and former Rep. Barbara Comstock (R-Va.) said.
There goes the “advice of counsel” defense.
Seriously, if your defense *** is “@MZHemingway wrote a book” you know you’re going to lose at trial. https://t.co/8bfmW5Ku0S

His attorneys must be irked. One of the worst kind of clients to have is one with a little knowledge but a lot of arrogance.
And he wonders why top lawyers won’t take him as a client.
At least he is being honest about what he was thinking at the time.
Trump told the truth. Not supposed to do that.
At what point does this cross the line to narcissism? Asking for a friend.
“At least he is being honest about what he was thinking at the time.”
Exactly. But later on, as the evidence mounted of election fraud he changed his mind on the matter.
Right.
There is no “Good Little Boy Award.”
I thought his entire defense rested on the idea that he was acting on the advice of counsel?
Not talking is OK.
It did. Until this interview.
For many people that line will never be crossed.
You don’t what’s true and what isn’t, but some of his aides will be used to testify against Trump, from what I’ve read, they told him before the election and election when he was still in the lead that he was going to lose.
Other aides and Trump developed a strategy to claim victory while he was ahead and before the results were announced, in order to create chaos and then fight in court to get declared the winner.
Oh, bull. Trump didn’t respect the people telling him he lost. Instead, he followed the advice of people he did respect, lawyers who agreed the election was stolen. Anyone who lists Lawrence Tribe as a legal source is too stupid to make an argument.
1. Every charge against Trump is nonsense. I'm not saying he didn't do these things, but to be indicted is ridiculous. Democrats do the same things and are never indicted. All charges should be dropped.
2. If Trump is convicted of any of these charges it will be his own fault. He's literally destroying his own defense by doing these interviews and talking about ongoing cases.
3. This man should never be allowed near the White House again.
The stable genius is at it again.
I got nothing.
“Other aides and Trump developed a strategy to claim victory while he was ahead and before the results were announced, in order to create chaos and then fight in court to get declared the winner.”
Interesting statement. How did you arrive at this conclusion?
Come on. He accepted the lawyers counsel from the lawyers who agreed with him.
Give me a break.
If I’m innocent, I seek out an attorney who will help me, not one who thinks I should plea bargain.
Steve Bannon for one said that was the plan.
The premise that Trump lost in a fair & honest election is total BS, and any consultant, lawyer that stated otherwise is FOS.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with Trump restating the facts of the day. And anyone that threatens his Constitutional Right to say so should be criminally prosecuted.
