Trump: ‘It was my decision’ to buy into idea that 2020 election was rigged — ‘didn’t respect’ aides who told him he lost
The New York Post ^ | 09/17/2023 | Ryan King

Donald Trump on Sunday said it was “my decision” to believe that the 2020 presidential election was “rigged” — saying he didn’t respect the aides and lawyers who’d told him he’d lost.

The former president, 77, was asked by NBC’s Kristen Welker on “Meet the Press” why he opted to ignore his “most senior lawyers” and campaign staffers about the election results.

“Because I didn’t respect them,” Trump replied.

Welker later asked the Republican frontrunner in the presidential primary whether he was “calling the shots … ultimately?”

“As to whether or not I believed it was rigged? Oh, sure,” Trump answered. “It was my decision. But I listened to some people.”

Last month, Trump attorney John Lauro publicly emphasized that his client’s actions to thwart the election results were done under the advice of counsel.

“Everything that President Trump did was with the advice of lawyers and counsel,” Lauro told NBC. “That’s an absolute defense to a criminal case.”

“This is a protocol you can follow — it’s legal.” ***

“Trump just threw his whole ‘following my lawyers’ advice’ defense under the bus. No, let me correct that: — not just under the bus but under a roaring, speeding, ginormous freight train . . . .,” Harvard University professor emeritus Laurence Tribe***

“And here is where Trump loses his defense that he relied on his lawyers,” attorney and former Rep. Barbara Comstock (R-Va.) said.

There goes the “advice of counsel” defense.

Seriously, if your defense *** is “@MZHemingway wrote a book” you know you’re going to lose at trial. https://t.co/8bfmW5Ku0S

Yep, buried under the weight of a 60% vote share in a primary and a lead in a head to head against Biden.

That is a wonderful example of the ignoratio elenchi fallacy. However, I will play along:

The latest Rasmussen Reports poll of likely voters has Biden beating Trump 43%-42%.

In June, Trump led Biden 45%-39%. The trend is your friend…or not.

81,000,000 votes

Biden only won 16 counties

It don’t take much after that to buy into it.

Bonus round: They are still finding rigged votes all over the nation.

“what they are alleging is Trump was trying to overturn the results of the election and engaged in a conspiracy to do so.“

That is correct - that is what they are alleging - but there’s nothing wrong with overturning a wrongly certified election.

We all know the election was stolen.
We all know that Team Trump was challenging highly suspicious activity and was completely justified in doing so. The Democrats do the same thing in close elections.

The only people who engaged in a conspiracy to overturn an election were the ones that stole it.

You can defend it all you want, but charging Trump with a “conspiracy to overturn an election” is just more shameful banana republic shit. The whole world is watching while we implode - trying to put the good guys in jail.

You have to ask yourself, can Trump get a jury that is impartial and open to the idea the election was stolen.

The majority of the people don’t believe, even though it’s the belief of the overwhelming majority of the people on FR.

That’s why the burden is on Trump, his defense will be the election is stolen and him challenging a fraudulent election was well within his rights which makes him innocent.

The Government’s burden of proof will be to show Trump engaged in a conspiracy to overturn a valid election, they will point to the fact that despite multiple allegations none of them have been proven in court making Trump’s claims irrelevant.

Showing the fact Trump tried to overturn the election won’t be difficult, what could be a real problem for him will be if aides that were involved in the reelection campaign take the stand against Trump, one of the key ones will likely be Mark Meadows, if he flips that could be bad, that’s why getting a jury open to the idea of a stolen election is important.

All this is speculation because neither one of us knows what strategy either side will take.

I think I read somewhere that Sidney Powell was going to be the first person to go on trial, what comes out of that trial will show what the government might have and how they plan to show evidence against Trump.

Odd that you accuse me of childish opinions and then come out with the childish expression tough tonails.

Offended? Certainly not. I just take it as a challenge when someone can not even make a logical argument and can’t see the contradictions in what they espouse.

Trump has accomplished more in four years than most presidents have in eight years. And doing so while he fought the whole world establishment.

He accomplished no wall.
He hired swamped after swamped.
He, in fact, did not lock her up.

Those are the reasons I voted for him.

He banned bump stocks and supports red flag laws-Fail

He locked down the country and handed out money to every fraudster in the world-Fail

He never once has admitted he was wrong about anything therefore I conclude he would do it again-Fail

Articulate enough?

Oh, I realize he won’t get a fair trial - I have no illusions about that.

My point is that it won’t be “damning evidence” that convicts him, it will be a corrupted justice system and a brainwashed jury pool.

There is no “damning evidence” because there was no crime.

Assuming he gets convicted, it will get appealed - all the way up to the SC if necessary, and eventually get overturned, because it’s not a crime to challenge an election. Period.

“He accomplished no wall”

After fighting democrats and Republicans and Federal judges, he finally got funding and built, belatedly as a result, about 500 miles of wall. Now, I am always stunned at the idiots who say, “he accomplished no wall.” Why did Biden, on his first day in office, sign an executive order that stopped the building of the wall? If no wall was being built, why did Biden order the end of wall construction. Also, how can you and Ann Coulter look at pictures of the wall and lie that it doesn’t exist?

Did not lock her up? Trump has no legitimate authority to lock her up. He would have been impeached if he even tried. Most of us knew it was language designed to highlight her criminality.

“He banned bump stocks and supports red flag laws-Fail”

The ATF banned bump stocks, whatever that is and he does not support red flag laws.

“He locked down the country and handed out money to every fraudster in the world.”

He agreed to lock down the country for two weeks. Remember, to “flatten the curve.” After that, the governors of the various states locked down the country, including your prince DeSantis. Some states did not lock down.

Trump handed out zero money to anyone. Also, the majority of the covid response occurred under the Biden administration.

“He never once has admitted he was wrong about anything therefore I conclude he would do it again.”

How many politicians can you cite me that parade around and proclaim their mistakes? You can’t. If he did, the MSM would be like a school of starved piranhas thrown a red juicy steak. However, he has admitted that, out of ignorance, he did hire some mistakes.

“Articulate enough?”

No. You aren’t very bright. Your Trump hatred clouds your thinking.

Just came home from work, Thanks for the reply.

Just for clarity,

He unequivocally botched Covid19.

How was this response botched, what would anyone, perhaps you, would have done anything different, given what you had, at that time, to work with, including all the hostility that the entire US govt could bestow, and backed by the entire media, print, radio and video.

Why did the govt, the entire rat party, and numerous if not most of the repub party, wanted him to fail miserably at anything , anything, he attempted to pass?

I can’t support him again. Even if I did, he is going lose. He has no path to 270. Maybe 205.

Well, some of us maybe 75 million, don't see it that way, I guess we'll see soon.

Trump enabled the mail in fraud.

Hmm, on this one I have doubts.

There are fifty states, and each one through their legislature decides how they are going to run elections and stuff.

Granted, some of them used nefarious ways to circumvent the established laws of their respective states, moves that were filed against, but thrown out by the courts as not being the business of the president. The actual fraud was within the framework of the respective states' policies, carried out by perpetrators within each state. When filed against, the President was told he had no standing.I do not see how this was Trump's doing.

It’s here to stay. We need to face that fact.

Assuming you mean the cheat. It is up to each individual state to clean up their roles and cheat practices. There has to be people willing to risk being doxxed and lawfared to the grave to effectively fight and reverse this. You have any one in mind?

In addition, if it is a fact, why even bother to have this discussion, or participate in any voting for the remainder of our country's' existence?

One man, any man can only do so much Trump is not infallible.

Agreed.

I wish some people would stop with the adulation, it is exactly what the democrats do with Obama.

I have no control over who others wish to adulate, or respect, or hate, nor do I hold them in higher or lower regard for, but what they themselves accomplish, or not.

I thought conservatives stood on principles.

Well, looking around daily, most do. However, each one must decide just exactly what defines their own principles, and to define other's principles for them, and tell them what to think and how to be, well, that is not so much a conservative principle now, is it?

To be honest, I thought burning the GoP e down would look a little different. Not becoming more like the leftists.

It will be glorious. But first, we have to either do it ourselves physically, or support someone who is willing to do it for us. You got anyone in mind?

In every aspect of the response to Covid19. From 2 weeks to flatten the curve, which lasted 2 years. To handing out Trumpbucks, to signing the CARES ACT, which was Pelosis’ clever way of enacting mail in voting that did not go through the individual states legislatures. It legalized the fraudulent votes that came in at 3am that All went to Biden-100% of them.
As a personal anecdote my social security number was used to collect over 25k$ in fraudulent unemployment claims in 2020 and 2021. No lockdown. No fraud to me personally. So there’s that. I never received a single cent of Trump bucks. My business took a dive that truly hurt me financially. I struggled to eat and keep my mortgage from going into default. My loved ones went crazy over the vax-an utterly useless Vax at that.
Don’t tell me that 2020 was a great time.

I’m livid over it. I will never forgive or forget what happened.

Unforced errors are Trumps brand.

Why sign on for more of it?
I’m done.

I’ve been around Free Republic a long time, every primary season it gets heated. I remember the purges.

I just have a different opinion than some of you. We are all on the same side.

By the way good luck on your kitchen remodeling project.

I don’t hate fellow Americans who want the best for our country. Which I know you do.

Cheers

Amazing how the corruption is so blatantly obvious.

Everybody knows that Biden stole the presidential election of 2020.
