Trump: ‘It was my decision’ to buy into idea that 2020 election was rigged — ‘didn’t respect’ aides who told him he lost
The New York Post ^ | 09/17/2023 | Ryan King

Donald Trump on Sunday said it was “my decision” to believe that the 2020 presidential election was “rigged” — saying he didn’t respect the aides and lawyers who’d told him he’d lost.

The former president, 77, was asked by NBC’s Kristen Welker on “Meet the Press” why he opted to ignore his “most senior lawyers” and campaign staffers about the election results.

“Because I didn’t respect them,” Trump replied.

Welker later asked the Republican frontrunner in the presidential primary whether he was “calling the shots … ultimately?”

“As to whether or not I believed it was rigged? Oh, sure,” Trump answered. “It was my decision. But I listened to some people.”

***

Last month, Trump attorney John Lauro publicly emphasized that his client’s actions to thwart the election results were done under the advice of counsel.

“Everything that President Trump did was with the advice of lawyers and counsel,” Lauro told NBC. “That’s an absolute defense to a criminal case.”

“This is a protocol you can follow — it’s legal.” ***

“Trump just threw his whole ‘following my lawyers’ advice’ defense under the bus. No, let me correct that: — not just under the bus but under a roaring, speeding, ginormous freight train . . . .,” Harvard University professor emeritus Laurence Tribe***

“And here is where Trump loses his defense that he relied on his lawyers,” attorney and former Rep. Barbara Comstock (R-Va.) said.

There goes the “advice of counsel” defense.

Seriously, if your defense *** is “@MZHemingway wrote a book” you know you’re going to lose at trial. https://t.co/8bfmW5Ku0S

And what exactly do you claim this to be proof of criminal activity of?

Ignoring the advice of lawyers is not a crime. Lawyers are, by definition, defensive... been dealing with them all my life.

If a lawyer tells you something is illegal, don’t do it, then you do it.. you can’t claim ignorance, but ignorance of the law is never an acceptable defense.

If however, I ask an attorney, should I get into this business, what are the pros and cons.. and the lawyers advise me not to, because of various reasons.. and I choose to move forward with that business venture anyway, that’s not breaking the law.

So tired of this “Yield to the Experts” mentality... Advisors are advisors, they are not the decision makers. I don’t care how educated or how highly paid they are, they are there to advise.

I guarantee, if I walk into a personal injury lawyers office, and ask them to take on a case that is difficult to win, and they are type who take a cut of the proceeds, and not paid by the hour, they will give me every reason why they can’t take this case.. however if I walk into a personal injury lawyer who charges by the hour with a difficult case, he will provide me options on how the case could be won, and take the case.

These conversations prove nothing, other than some lawyers told him they didn’t see a path to win... so what?

“He don’t have to do anything. I’m just one lowly voter. It’s the other millions he’s pissin’ off with his big mouth that he needs to worry about.”

And who exactly do you claim he is “pissing off”? Folks who were never going to vote for anything but a liberal were never a viable voter for him anyway, so who cares.

Trump is the ONLY president to grow his support by more than 17% while in office.... at least since 1900 (and probably in the history of the country), when they were initially elected in a 2 way race... No one in your lifetime other than Trump can make that claim. Not Obama, Not Clinton, Not Bush, Not Reagan, not Nixon, not even FDR...

This electability BS is the same old tired crap the establishment rolls out every time the pleebs don’t follow the script.. and frankly its nonsense.... They used this tactic in PA to crush Barnette when the voters finally saw someone they liked... to make sure they got one of their pathetic dough boys... and how did that turn out?

Lost an absolutely winnable Senate seat by scaring the voters back onto their loser reservation.. and then put 100M+ behind the turd, money that could have been used in other races and made a difference, to get beat by a man who can’t even put a sentence together....

Take your nonsense back to the RNC HQ.

The simple truth is, if TRUMP can’t win, then there is not a Republican alive who can... Period.

Well, I sure hope you guys are right. It’s just that America is no longer famous for fair and honest elections. And our side can’t do a damn thing about it. 2020 and 2022 were a farce.

Just listened to the interview and Trump was amazing. He put on a master class on the abortion issue. He had her on the defensive. “No one wants that Mr. President”. Actually they do want that. Notice how he didn’t really have to defend his stance much because the question was turned around on her. Not sure why anyone would want another nominee, Trump is amazing and you can bet not much “pivoting” will go on once he gets to the general election. I think the interviewer was rude, interrupted a lot and came trying to box in the discussion (that will be I’m our foreign policy section. The contrast with how Trump sees things makes Trump come off even better). Ultimately I thought she did a fair interview though. He comes across very well.

Yet another example of Trump burying himself.

Yep, buried under the weight of a 60% vote share in a primary and a lead in a head to head against Biden.

“Yet another example of Trump burying himself.”

Burying himself by telling the truth? Nonsense - the election WAS rigged!

If telling the truth about that hurts Trump’s case - that means our justice system is also rigged.

I appreciate people supporting Trump, I can’t be wrong when I say what is being reported and IF IT PROVES TO BE TRUE.

Regardless of how bogus the charges are and they are totally bogus, they are also very real, the government will have some evidence to put on, what will the evidence be, neither you nor I know what that will be.

All I was saying was, if aides to Trump say in open court they told Trump before election night and before the votes were fully reported, he was going to loses, that will be very damning evidence.

President Trump simply states the obvious. His most powerful is the Argument from Popularity, well stated throughout this thread. Everyone knows its impossible that Biden won and got that many votes, so it was His duty to find the Fraud.

Don't forget the Steal of 2016 when over 5 million Fraud votes flipped to deny President Trump a "victory" in the popular vote. The Iowa Caucuses were also rigged that year.

I,ve been married to the same woman for 17 years. I respect her and have never cheated on her.

Same woman, 32 years.

I have never declared bankruptcy.

Neither I.

I have never been charged with a felony.

Ditto.

I have never been to a Clinton family wedding.

To be fair, I have been to numerous weddings in my life, and some were dyed in the wool libs, but they were were friends at the time. I don't socialize with libs much anymore, but still have clients that re flaming libs.

I have never donated my hard earned money to democrats.

Not directly, but who knows where the money goes after leaving my hands?

I believe the 2nd amendment is an inalienable right.

Granted by virtue of being born. Some govt's don's see it that way, and libs want to abolish it, permanently.

I have never hung around with Jeffrey Epstein.

Dittos. I have met people who later proved to be criminal, and thus were avoided.

I am a crack shot and a good dancer.

Got that one covered with a blanket.

I finished high school.

High school drop out, finished college, finished post grad, and then some.

I met Mike Ditka in a bar. Wouldn't know him if I did. Did meet Clint Walker, Lorne Greene and a few others.

I remodeled my kitchen and both bathrooms.

Have the kitchen remodel on queue this winter. Did do both baths, added a sun room, spacious deck, and a free standing 1100 sq ft garage with only the help of wife. (the roof was fun).

I can recite all of the Stanley Cup winners from 1970 to present.

Never was crazy about sports, maybe the SB or the WS on occasion. However, can name and describe every single nut, bolt and piece of metal on a HD evo motor from the pinion shaft to the rubber on the rear tire.

I didn’t call myself a stable genius.

Neither do I, although some of my friends call be an effin genius, on occasion, after a few beers and a problem solved.

Ol’ Lockdown Don not so much.

The man is willing, and has shown to put it all up, all of it, off the couch, out the door, and into the middle of the fray. Yeah, some of it may be ego, hard to get there without it, but his heart is for this country, not to enrich his family by selling out the USA, unlike EVERY SINGLE MF'in RAT out there.

Until we, you and I get off the couch and step into that ring, he is currently our representative in that ring. Why do we wish to piss on him? Because he is not the perfection of our dream rep?

Because he dissed out favorite?

because he is not sincere and wishes only to fool you into supporting him with lies and deceit until he gets into office then proceeds to sell out the USA?

Just what is it that provokes this hatred, this animosity?

Look, this is simple:

The Feds are accusing him of falsely claiming the election was stolen.
To prove it they need evidence that shows he knew it was not stolen.
If it WAS stolen, he can’t possibly have known it was NOT stolen.

Therefore, regardless of what Trump knew when, their entire case hinges on whether or not the election was in fact stolen.

Trump is very smart to publicly double down on his claims that the election was stolen - because ultimately, the Feds are going to have to prove the election was not stolen - and they can’t - because it WAS.

Assuming we know what the evidence is going to be, which neither of us know.

The Government doesn’t have to prove the election wasn’t stolen, what they are alleging is Trump was trying to overturn the results of the election and engaged in a conspiracy to do so.

Stolen or not, the result was Biden became POTUS, if and it’s a BIG IF, the government puts multiple Trump aides on the witness stand saying they all knew the election was lost before election day and before the results were announced that will be major damning evidence.

Assuming you are right about the burden of proof being on the government to prove the election wasn’t stolen, they will put on tons of evidence pointing out that despite allegation after allegation by Trump, not ONE allegation has been proven in a court of law and they would be right.

The burden of proof over the election being stolen is going to be squarely on Trump.

“I have never declared bankruptcy.”

So that makes you superior to Mark Twain, Charles Goodyear, Walt Disney, etc.

Okay.

“I have never been charged with a felony.”

You mean you are stupid enough to believe the FBI?

“I have never been to a Clinton family wedding.”

You are so special.

“I believe the 2nd amendment is an inalienable right.”

Yep, you are so special, and different.

“I have never hung around with Jeffrey Epstein.”

Trump kicked Epstein out of his club, so Epstein was trying to hang around Trump.

And you are not a politician, like Trump, who has to sell himself, and he is a firm believer in General George Patton’s advice to “do your damnedest in the most ostensible manner possible.”

It’s not hatred.
Animosity I would cop too that.
Trump was the right man vs. The most despicable person ever to run for president in US history.

I voted for him twice.

He unequivocally botched Covid19.
I can’t support him again. Even if I did, he is going lose. He has no path to 270. Maybe 205.

I don’t want Biden in office anymore. If Trump is the nominee, he will lose twice to an dementia patient. Trump enabled the mail in fraud.
It’s here to stay. We need to face that fact. Trump is not infallible. I wish some people would stop with the adulation, it is exactly what the democrats do with Obama. I thought conservatives stood on principles. To be honest, I thought burning the GoP e down would look a little different. Not becoming more like the leftists.
