The United Auto Workers (UAW) are now striking against the top three automakers, General Motors (GM), Ford, and Stellantis. The union has continuously asked for a contract that ensures security for auto workers amid Biden’s EV push which, if not coupled with an ambitious manufacturing agenda, may eliminate millions of U.S. jobs.

A lithium deposit discovered in a volcanic crater along the Nevada-Oregon border may hold up to 40 million metric tons of the rare metal — possibly the largest ever in the world, which could have a massive impact on the electric vehicle industry, according to a new study.
The deposit hidden within the McDermitt Caldera is estimated to hold between 20 million and 40 million metric tons, which would be nearly double the current record of about 23 million metric tons found over the summer beneath a Bolivian salt flat, researchers reported in Science Advances.
It would also greatly boost America’s overall lithium reserves, which were previously estimated at a paltry 1 million metric tons.
Belgian geologist Anouk Borst said that if the estimate proves true, the sudden overabundance of American lithium — the metal sought after by electric vehicle makers — could have global impacts.

I do find a bit of satisfaction in the knowledge that Joe’s reign of terror is hitting the unions hard. After all, they had a little to do with his leap from a county council seat to the U.S. Senate in two short years. It’s not too late for them to clean up their own mess, IMO.

Foreign lithium producers will pay at least 10 percent for the big guy.
EV conversion works so well for the Regime. Destroy millions of US jobs, take away private automobiles, make the country even more dependent on imports.
The Globohomo Regime hates the population it rules, and does everything to immiserate and destroy them.

Be aware that it would be possible to tow rented lithium battery trailers behind a sodium ion battery car.
Another possibility is to rent an ICE car for long trips if you don’t already have one in your household.

Lithium and the “rare” earth metals are not rare. The US produced all it needed until the EPA shut down all processing. Why? Well, it was dirty. Some of the metals require multiple acid washes to separate them from the materials they are found in. However, these technical problems have been solved. Why are we not producing rare earth metals, well, probably for two reasons. The EPA, which wants every atom of whatever kept out of the entire US and because producing using a clean process is more expensive than the Chinese method. The Chinese process is to pour the waste into the ground. (They do this with everything and the ground water in much of China is now poisonous and will remain so for hundreds of years.) It’s impossible to beat the prices China is producing at.

Apparently, in Africa, Lithium is plentiful and very available.
Except China doesn’t really have 70% of the world’s lithium. They “control” lithium mines in Africa and South America. Chile recently nationalized its lithium mines, including some with Chinese ownership/equity. As Lithium demand increases, other countries in South America and Africa will also realize they were hoodwinked by China, and follow Chile’s path.
The new US discovery of a massive lithium deposit, if proven, could make the USA #1 in lithium reserves. Add in that just 10 years ago, lithium demand was 1/5 of today, and today’s lithium demand is likely less than 1/5 of what it will be 10 years from today, there will be a LOT more exploration and discovery of lithium reserves. There will be more lithium found in the US, Mexico and Canada. Probably more than enough to fuel our needs until lithium is replaced by technological advances. I expect there will be regulations by 2030 that will require lithium products to meet a certain recycling standard, making the supply last much longer.
The West need to learn from Europe’s dependency on Russian gas, and avoid dependency on Chinese lithium. We should also ensure we don’t provide a market for Chinese built electric cars (and pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, chips, machinery, etc).
