CNN’s Poppy Harlow interviewed New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) on Tuesday and cornered her, reading the New Mexico Constitution to her on-air and asking if her ban on concealed carry violates the Constitution.
Harlow read from Article II, Section 6, of New Mexico’s Constitution, saying, “No law shall abridge the right of the citizen to keep and bear arms for security and defense…No municipality or county shall regulate, in any way, an incident of the right to keep and bear arms.”
She then asked Grisham, “Are you not in violation of both the U.S. Constitution and your state’s Constitution?”
Grisham responded, “I don’t believe that we are.”
She then claimed that “if that narrow reading of the constitution” were followed, New Mexico “wouldn’t have universal background checks…wouldn’t have a waiting period…wouldn’t have a red flag law…we wouldn’t have prohibitions for straw purchases, none of those would have been deemed constitutional, and today, all of them are.”
Harlow shot back, noting that all the gun controls mentioned by Grisham were adopted prior to the Supreme Court of the United States’ (SCOTUS) decision in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, Inc. v. Bruen (2022), which ruled against New York’s proper cause requirement for concealed carry permit issuance.

There...fixed it
The reporter should have read both of those to Grisham as well and looked her in the eye and asked her how narrow that reading about noone shall, issue a health emergency order thay vio, ates the constitution is!
“All laws that are repugnant to the Constitution are null and void.”
Marbury v. Madison
Yep, throw that one at her too! She should be removed from office for blatant disregard for the constitution
Of course, that was her oath when taking office.
Kathy hochul should be too, but too many politicians won’t do,what is right, and the nation ends up having to suffer under them
.......when CNN moves to the RIGHT on an issue you know that Pelosi and Schumer have declared said issue to be a loser for Democrats.
Most Democrats know this. Apparently Grisham didn’t get the memo.
She admits, right there, that the very idea of "gun control" violates both the Federal Constitution and the New Mexico State Constitution. I wonder if she realizes that?
“It’s surprising that CNN would go after her. “
It has to be a trap.
We can suffer thru a minority of corrupt bad pols, but not a majority like we have now.
So since she has violated the Constitution she should be removed from office.
Got it. Very clever and devious.
It has to be something like that. Who pulls the trigger on something like this before making a few phone calls? Maybe she is gunning for a board seat on Everytown or one of the other Bloomberg outfits.
Freegards
I get it now…
yes. they all should be. every dem calling for infringements on bearing arms too.
Governor Grisham is so caught up in her own SELF-IMPORTANCE she actually believes that SHE MAKES the RULES! or makes a difference...
hehehe
“No law shall abridge the right of the citizen to keep and bear arms”
“She then claimed that “if that narrow reading of the constitution”
“if that narrow reading of the constitution”
That “ narrow reading of the Constitution”, as she puts it is the ONLY way it can and should be interpreted. If that “narrow reading of the Constitution” were true, then the entire Constitution is up for interpretation. That’s silly and dangerous.
Our Founding Fathers were very explicit in their language, so that this wouldn’t happen. BUT, the progressives care little or not at all about being Constitutionally accurate. They have their agenda, the Constitution be damned.
Without the state AG in her defense. I’m sure some law firm will step in to help her but it’s still a big deal.
