A key Russian general who Russian president Vladimir Putin promoted this week said that Moscow's invasion of Ukraine is a mere "stepping stone" to further conflict with Europe. Vladimir Putin promoted lieutenant general Andrey Mordvichev to the rank of colonel-general after he had already been serving in the role of commanding the central military district and Russian central grouping of forces in Ukraine.
In an interview with Moscow's state-run Russia-1, Andrey Mordvichev said that he believes Vladimir Putin's war will last quite a long time and expand in the future.
"I think there's still plenty of time to spend. It is pointless to talk about a specified period. If we are talking about Eastern Europe, which we will have to, of course then it will be longer," the general said.
"Ukraine is only a stepping stone?" the interviewer then asked.
"Yes, absolutely. It is only the beginning," he responded adding that the war “will not stop here.”

PUTIN wants HIS legacy to be :HE GATHERED all the former soviet states back together.
China’s claim on Vladivostok predates Russia’s.
War is one of the few constants throughout history. In many ways it defines history. War usually represents a failure of diplomacy. That is what has happened here. Russia is being told by The West that it must deal with X,Y,and Z whether it likes it or not. Russia says no we are not going to deal with X,Y,and Z and we are willing to use force to prevent it. The West says go right ahead and Russia goes to war. Maybe this war could’ve been prevented with a negotiated settlement but that is not what The West wanted.
Ditto!
Mongolia’s claim on most of Russia and eastern Ukraine predate Russian claims on Crimea.
A few years hence, Putin is likely dead.
Such bullshit. Putin has been hammering at Kiev for almost two years and has garnered a few yards of dirt. And now we’re to believe that Russia really has its sites set on countries it previously occupied?
Ya, right.
And the problem is? Learn what self-fulfilling prophecy is.
The problem with the ideas this Russian general has expressed is something more long term than this war or its immediate aftermath.
If this is the state of mind of the Russian elite that runs its institutions, or of their pool of successors - I like to call that the people filling up the “cursus honorum” - thats a Roman concept, look it up - then the Russian threat is going to be a perpetual problem.
Europe is probably going to have to watch its back for generations.
Someday Russia will get better leadership, and then it will use its resources more effectively. If that general’s state of mind persists, then its just going to be worse for everyone.
And that state of mind is likely to persist. Russia is under a curse.

LOL! The retard can barely invade and keep the part of ukraine that historically was part of russia. What does he think would happen if he invaded an actual NATO member nation?
The Russian military has not exactly been impressive in this war. What makes this general think he can succeed against NATO when it appears the Russians are bogged down after 19 months of the “special military operation”?
Maybe, but they vitiated their own claim voluntarily so what’s your point?
There you go. We’ve been told repeatedly that it was only about the poor Russians in Ukraine.
Oh, bullcrap!
Juvenile garbage.
There are people with very strange views in this country.
Or they have adopted the Islamic view that peace will come as soon as everyone bows to them.
Europe likes the status quo just fine.
Scary...should I wear a mask?
