Former president Donald Trump filed a motion Monday asking the judge hearing his 2020 election interference case to recuse herself.
The filing argues that Judge Tanya Chutkan, an Obama appointee, should recuse herself from the case, alleging she suggested elsewhere that Trump should be “prosecuted and imprisoned.” It cites comments Chutkan made in a case she heard in November 2022 involving a January 6 defendant, as well as a case she heard in December 2021.
“Such statements, made before this case began and without due process, are inherently disqualifying,” the filing notes. “Although Judge Chutkan may genuinely intend to give President Trump a fair trial—and may believe that she can do so—her public statements unavoidably taint these proceedings, regardless of outcome.”
The filing quotes a portion of the sentencing transcript for a case involving Jan. 6 defendant Christine Priola.
“[T]he people who mobbed that Capitol were there in fealty, in loyalty, to one man — not to the Constitution, of which most of the people who come before me seem woefully ignorant; not to the ideals of this country; and not to the principles of democracy,” Chutkan said, according to the court filing. “It’s a blind loyalty to one person who, by the way, remains free to this day.”
Trump’s lawyers argue the statement’s meaning is “inescapable—President Trump is free, but should not be.”

I think this is to put her on record for denying the motion, but the citation would be out there and might be part of some process the defense is building.
Maybe the judge should get several 100 emails simply stating, “I think you’re a trump supporter. That triggers me.”
If she doesn’t and Trump is convicted, I would think that it is grounds for a mistrial.
Ultimately it will be up to the Supreme Court to protect Trump’s civil rights and get a fair trial against these absurd charges. This will be the first of many appeals in all these trials that will delay the political theater until after the election.
Agree
Such statements, made before this case began and without due process, are inherently disqualifying.
Most corrupt judicial system in history.
She has one job so she’s not going to recuse…
Mistrial and/or Appeal, gift wrapped.
This ditz is a Jamaican. She is not an American. She needs to be arrested for interfering with the business of the United States. Deport her ass back to Kingston. She doesn’t belong here.
Depending on the local rule, the judge may have no choice.
Let’s hope so.
Ginsberg presided over gay weddings, then sat in on a case to decide the legality of gay weddings
Gosh, isn't that an idiotic thing for a judge to say--when Trump was not even on trial? Doesn't that give the defendant a mile-wide opening to say she was denied her rights because she was a Trump supporter, and this idiot has put herself on the public record saying Trump is a bad guy and implies he should be in jail?
And never mind that she never noticed that the US isn't a democracy--it's a republic.
Should recuse herself, should be removed; but won’t. Leftards don’t have to abide by ethics and moral standards. They have neither.
You are acting like you think this judge has ethics. If she doesn’t recuse herself and Trump is convicted it will be overturned. When he becomes President the house should start impeachment proceeding. If the woman has no ethics she doesn’t belong on the bench.
The only time rats recuse is when it is so brazen that it in of itself guarantees a successful appeal petition. Then the rats do all they can to time it so another rat gets the case which is pretty easy in DC
"That's how it has to be."
There are a lot of folks that will remember that little progism for a very long time.
As for the "recuse herself" part, I would not hold my breath.

Enrique Tarrio Drops Names of Top DOJ Officials Who Were
Present when Biden Officials Pressured Him to Lie on Trump:
<><>DOJ Lead Prosecutor Jocelyn Ballantine
<><>and Asst US Atty Jason McCullough,
<><>both involved in the RussiaGate hoax to some degree.
From The Gateway Pundit:
<><>Jocelyn Ballantine was a DOJ atty WRT Gen Michael Flynn’s prosecution.
<><>The DOJ admitted to altering evidence in Flynn’s case
<><>the govt eventually dropped the case against Flynn.
<><>Ballantine was caught lying WRT DOJ’s investigation of Strzok and McCabe.
<><>She is today a top official in Merrick Garland’s DOJ.
<><>Atty Jason McCullough urged jurors to convict the Proud Boys of seditious conspiracy.
Notably, Tarrio was not even present on January 6
because he was arrested and detained two days prior.
But District Judge Tim Kelly asserted Tarrio was responsible
for the conduct of other Proud Boys members who were there.at the Capitol.
Why would it be up to the judge in this case? She is obviously biased. There is no doubt. Is there not some body that watches these things? She is not fit to try Trump. Any such trial is illegitimate and cannot be accepted.
Traitor Roberts is a hating NeverTrumper.
Nothing fair and equitable coming from him.
