Citing “two sources familiar with the plans,” CNN reported Thursday that Noem is set to voice her support for Trump on the campaign trail Friday in South Dakota.
Noem, who launched a national ad campaign recruiting workers to the Mount Rushmore State in June, was widely discussed as a potential GOP presidential candidate in recent years, especially as she rose to conservative stardom with her never-lockdown response to the coronavirus pandemic.
Noem told Breitbart News in 2021 that she would back Trump if he sought the presidency again.
“If President Trump runs again, I certainly will support him,” Noem said, adding that “I’m not” thinking about any future presidential campaign of her own at this time.
“I’d rather stay here in South Dakota and round up buffalo,” she added.
The governor secured Trump’s endorsement in her reelection bid last year and handily beat out her Democrat challenger, Jamie Smith, in a landslide victory. In his endorsement, Trump praised Noem’s work as governor and hailed her as a strong conservative:
She is strong on Borders, the Second Amendment, preserving land and Energy Dominance, Medical Freedom, and kept South Dakota open during COVID. She fully supports our great Law Enforcement, Military, our wonderful Vets — and is a fighter for the incredible people of South Dakota.”
Noem would mark the fourth Republican governor to come out in support of Trump since his launch. Govs. Henry McMaster (R-SC), Jim Justice (R-WV) – who is running for U.S. Senate – and Mike Dunleavy (R-AK) have already announced their backing of the 45th president, as have ten Republican senators, FiveThirtyEight’s endorsement tracker shows.

Hmmmmmm.
Smart Lady, good governor.
She’s a weathervane. But sure has the main qualification for veep. She’s female.
She gets a lot of criticism (justifiably) for her GOP establishment ties, but you can never go wrong with a girl from a ranching family in a Great Plains state.
She should have monuments in her honor for being the only U.S. governor who refused to impose any lockdown orders during COVID.
No. She isn’t. But thanks for providing so many concrete and irrefutable examples to support your aspersion..
Ahemm,
Kristi has ovaries. Your point is??
I would vote for a Trump/Noem ticket.
Sounds like she's trying to move-in when Trump gets jailed - otherwise, why wait so long to support him? Won't work for her, though, as she already proved herself to be compromised when it came to protecting girls' sports.
By the way, any word on whether she still answers to this clown:
Smart move on her part.
Might gain her an appointment in a Trump cabinet.
Boobs too... And? She still one of the most conservative and consistent Governors in the US.
Again with the lies. She did more to protect girls sports than the milquetoast RINO’s did with their originally flawed Bill.
Had to be dragged kicking and screaming to sign a bill about males in the female locker room. And I’ve never once heard her say the election was stolen. Bush in a skirt.
Some people on Free Republic, keep saying she went liberal on us, with that transgender sports issue.
She disapproved of the first bill the legislature came up with on that sujbect, and among her concerns was that that bill would be subject to court challenges.
She signed and approved the second version of the bill which she said was a stronger bill that would survive Court challenges.
It seems to me she’s on our side with this transgender Sports business. But to some people here on Free Republic , the fact that she turned down the first version of a bill on this subject is unforgivable to them.
What took her so long?
She will never be a serious contender in a presidential election. I suspect this story is out there because Trump is scheduled to make an appearance today or tomorrow at a major GOP fundraising event in Rapid City, South Dakota.
That’s what I think. Trump has a very small limited number of VP picks to choose from.
Noem would be a good choice.
“Again with the lies. She did more to protect girls sports than the milquetoast RINO’s did with their originally flawed Bill.”
You mean the bill that she had tweeted that she looked forward to signing (since deleted) - as in this bill?
Kristie Noem, Kari Lake or Sarah Palin would all be great picks.
