A lot of times when drivers say, "Whoa, I wasn't speeding! Why are you charging me for doing so?", they aren't lying.

Unsworn falsifications are forgeries, and, in most states, considered felonies.

I would rather they file fake reports than hassle innocent motorists, but it’s not good either way.

Nicole Gonzalez Van Cleve, a sociologist at Brown University, affirmed this issue. “If we can’t trust them for traffic tickets, how are we going to trust them for cases like sexual assault, or murder,” she said.

They took an oath.

Can’t we just trust them? /S

For the past few years I’ve had the feeling cop’s are doing everything they can to avoid interacting with the public. Cop activity is way down around me.

Well, its much safer to pull over phantom vehicles. The phantom drivers never complain or accuse you of racism.

Deep blue Ct has descended to the collapse of the Soviet Union. The state pretends to pay you. The people pretend to work. As a refugee who fled, I can tell you, Ct is a very sick state.

The ticket reports under scrutiny may have also irrevocably tainted the racial data that the state collects on traffic stops. That is because the motorists who were purportedly stopped were disproportionately white, said Mr. Barone, who is the manager of the Connecticut Racial Profiling Prohibition Project, which seeks to identify and address racial and ethnic disparities in traffic enforcement.

Well there is the problem, they needed to report fake black motorists.....................

These officers should be outed by name, let them defend their credibility the next time they are in court claiming the veracity of a ticket against a citizen.

Poor pay, very poor training, affirmative action re race, gender, sexual preference, women street cops, meritocracy cancelled...., indeed outlawed.

Gee, what could go wrong?

The feds give municipalities grant money if they prove 2.2 or greater interactions with law enforcement per year, per person. Thus “show us your papers”.

"the credibility of officers tasked with upholding the law and has led some to question whether they can be trusted to handle more serious criminal cases."

That could be a real weak spot the defense could take advantage of......but I'm not a lawyer.....never played on on TV..

I find simplifying the language of articles sometimes lends clarity to what people are up to by removing the weasel words that soften the blow, especially in the context of public servants:

troopers manipulating records lying

officers were fabricating lying in traffic reports

a pattern of record manipulation lies

at least 25,966 recorded stops ... were false were lied about

as many as 58,553 may have been ... inaccurate partial lies

scheme of systematic deceit lies

the disparities lies

officers caught in the audit lying

officers are willing to fabricate data lie

officers might abuse their authority lie in particularly heinous ways
