Connecticut’s law enforcement has been rocked by a potential scandal involving how its officers have been reporting traffic stops. An audit exposed a troubling pattern of state troopers manipulating records to make themselves appear to be more productive.
The report reveals that at least 100 officers were fabricating traffic reports to boost their numbers. The revelation has raised questions about the credibility of officers tasked with upholding the law and has led some to question whether they can be trusted to handle more serious criminal cases.

Unsworn falsifications are forgeries, and, in most states, considered felonies.
I would rather they file fake reports than hassle innocent motorists, but it’s not good either way.
Yup, you’ll have that, in the F-you state!
I’m the same way. If they are off the road filing false reports that’s a good thing.
Nicole Gonzalez Van Cleve, a sociologist at Brown University, affirmed this issue. “If we can’t trust them for traffic tickets, how are we going to trust them for cases like sexual assault, or murder,” she said.
They took an oath.
Can’t we just trust them? /S
Cops are often are just revenue collectors.
And with more underqualified and DEI candidates wearing badges, expect way more corruption and lies. Its hard enough for a good person to stay clean being a cop for decades. Which is why I don’t think they should be cops for decades. Burnout and terminally-cynical “everyone’s a criminal”, or corruption, occurs eventually.
For the past few years I’ve had the feeling cop’s are doing everything they can to avoid interacting with the public. Cop activity is way down around me.
Well, its much safer to pull over phantom vehicles. The phantom drivers never complain or accuse you of racism.
Deep blue Ct has descended to the collapse of the Soviet Union. The state pretends to pay you. The people pretend to work. As a refugee who fled, I can tell you, Ct is a very sick state.
The ticket reports under scrutiny may have also irrevocably tainted the racial data that the state collects on traffic stops. That is because the motorists who were purportedly stopped were disproportionately white, said Mr. Barone, who is the manager of the Connecticut Racial Profiling Prohibition Project, which seeks to identify and address racial and ethnic disparities in traffic enforcement.
“Safer to pull over phantom “
you win ....
These officers should be outed by name, let them defend their credibility the next time they are in court claiming the veracity of a ticket against a citizen.
The ones that aren’t are dangerous criminals. Police are way to violence prone in my opinion. Badge, gun and immunity.
Pretty much the first thing that popped into my head too, as soon as I saw the headline.
Poor pay, very poor training, affirmative action re race, gender, sexual preference, women street cops, meritocracy cancelled...., indeed outlawed.
Gee, what could go wrong?
It sounds like they couldn’t find enough white motorists to pull over so they manufactured some (well, apparently a lot) to meet the “equity” requirements.
If raises and bonuses were based on “making the race numbers” that is a very strong incentive to cheat.
It also allows them to avoid making risky perhaps life threatening stops on minority filled vehicles—particularly if no assistance will be easily available if things go bad.
It sounds like this could be happening in many states—CT may just have had an honest audit.
