The Burning Man Festival is held in the desert of Black Rock City, Nevada. This year's festival opened with a viral video of climate change activists blocking traffic with law enforcement responding.
Now, the controversy has spun into a chaotic scene the festival organizers are declaring a National Emergency. Can a festival declare a National Emergency? That's beside the point right now.
Heavy rains overnight on Friday have transformed the infamously dusty desert site into a muddy mess, trapping over 70,000 attendees. The festival-goers are being instructed to shelter in place and to conserve food and water resources since getting supplies in is not possible as no entry nor exit has been permitted since Friday night. No travelers will be permitted to enter for the remainder of the event, per organizers on Saturday. The pop-up airport known as Black Rock City Municipal Airport has been closed, and only emergency vehicles are allowed to drive.
Herpes and HPV?
A modern Woodstock?
Those people need to be more worried about STDs and crabs than Covid.
“Can a festival declare a National Emergency?”
They need to secede first...actually that might work—then the National Guard from several western states might come and rescue them....
:-)
I don’t any STD would immediately start bleeding on the inside of the body.
I’m guessing germ warfare by the usual globalist suspects.
This is definitely Climate Change....sarc
National emergency? Get over yourselves, burners. Nobody outside your little dreamworld cares. Grovel in the mud.
I don’t understand the conservative revulsion against the Burning Man festival. It teaches self-reliance, self-responsibility, and civic coordination. As a conservative hippie myself, this is on my bucket list.
Somehow with everything else going on right now, I’m just not too worked up about this. Kinda feel its a good comeuppance long overdue.
Probably because of rape of teens and drug use that have gone on there.
Improper planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.
“It teaches self-reliance, self-responsibility, and civic coordination. As a conservative hippie myself, this is on my bucket list.”
The original Burning Man was closer to what you are describing.
Decades later it has gotten insanely huge and a place for the “cool people” to hang out with celebrities and show their fancy camping gear—just dumb at this point.
The trust fund teens are not real good at “self reliance”...
;-)
Covid is not the concern.
.
sounds like a good target for local military to practice bombing runs on. Damn hippies
In the past that has happened, but the organizers have really cracked down.
You have gangbanging thugs shooting each other at hip-hop concerts and house parties.
This is one of those festivals where people like to let their hair down and embrace alternative lifestyles and culture. That's the hippie in me, I'm a huge fan of natural medicine, food, and spirituality. I wish conservatives would be the same, and not think that every purple hair kid with a nose-ring is a loser.
It’s sort of a friend-of-my-enemy thing.
Most folks here consider contemporary festival goers to be left of Abbie Hoffman. To be fair, a LOT of them are leftists. Further, witness the climate change video at the beginning of Burning Man 2023. Ergo, the whole lot should be cast aside.
They may be chiefly libertarians in the audience (that’s what I see at Bethel Woods and other similar places), but the folks running these things will likely be MIA if the SHTF, as we saw with Frye.
I’d go to Burning Man only if I had a prepaid Blackwater extraction team on the speed dial of my satellite phone.
Woodstock?
More like Mudstock.
More like bleepstock.
