National Hispanic Heritage Month officially kicks off Sept. 15, marking the 35th year of the celebration of Hispanic cultures and their contributions to the U.S. As Hispanic people continue being one of the U.S.’ most visible communities, many questions about terminology arise.
The current most common ways Hispanic populations refer to themselves are “Hispanic,” “Latino/Latina” and “Chicano,” but the newer gender-neutral term “Latinx” attempts to be more inclusive to non-binary members of the population

White Liberals want to turn everyone gay.
It’s a made up term designed to include Latino and Latina in one term. The problem is they didn’t run it past Spanish speakers who would have told them that it’s stupid, the language doesn’t work that way. It didn’t have anything to do with transgenders originally. If it’s being interpreted that way now it’s trying to put a new spin on it to latch on to the newfound tranny mania BS.
How about going back to the old name: LatinTwitter
Any change in Spanish Language must come from Madrid not anyplace in the USA—and not to please some woke fantasy of English speakers.
El latino, la latino, das Latinx.
Well played (golf clap..)
It’s even more complex than that. Everyone on Earth sees their existence and identity largely through their native language.
‘Latinx’ is a completely made-up word, forced upon Spanish speakers in an attempt to divorce them from what and who they are and their root values.
It’s disrespectful and insulting - and it’s being done by the very people who claim to be the arbiters of tolerance and ‘inclusiveness’.
Words have gender.
People have a sex.
That sex is binary.
It is biological and immutable.
I know you hate your life and want to be someone else but no matter what you chop off or glue on you are still you.
That is nearly the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.
Maybe the white liberals should push LatinGBTQXYZ?
Yup.
The left tried to push a synthetic language called Esperanto on the world. That flopped. So now they are trying to corrupt other languages.
If you control language, you control thought. Ref Orwell. (The left didn’t see Pig Farm and 1984 as warnings, they saw them as playbooks for their plans.)
As I recall, Spain determines the grammar of the language and they officially rejected the term. For the same reasons as others have said, it’s a germanic rule in a Latin language. It doesn’t make sense.
Or if you pronounce it as a blend as I do, it rhymes with twinks which ain't gonna win any friends among the machismo set. Never occurred to me to pronounce it like Eater X, the retired competitive eater.
Most Hispanics aren’t spanish. They have absconded the cultures of central, south america and the carribean.
Are they Dr. Seuss books?
Because it is a term for woke, rich, virtue signaling liberal whites - not something the Latino community had anything to do with.
Just like Kwanzaa.
