WASHINGTON — Joe Biggs, a Proud Boys leader convicted of seditious conspiracy who the government says "served as an instigator and leader" during the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, was sentenced to 17 years in federal prison on Thursday.
It is among the longest sentences in Capitol riot cases. The record is the 18-year sentence given to Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes, also convicted of seditious conspiracy, after prosecutors sought 25 years in federal prison in his case.
The government sought 33 years for Biggs, an Army veteran who sustained a head injury in Iraq and then served as a correspondent for the conspiracy website Infowars. Prosecutors argued that he was a “vocal leader and influential proponent of the group’s shift toward political violence” and used his “outsized public profile” and his military experience as he “led a revolt against the government in an effort to stop the peaceful transfer of power.”
U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly handed down Biggs' sentence. He ruled earlier in Thursday's hearing that Biggs’ tearing down of a fence that stood between police and rioters qualified him for a terrorism sentencing enhancement sought by prosecutors. Destroying the fence was a “deliberate, meaningful step” that contributed to the disruption of the electoral vote count occurring in the Capitol, Kelly said.
Biggs was convicted in May of seditious conspiracy; conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding; obstruction of an official proceeding; conspiracy to use force, intimidation or threats to prevent officers of the U.S. from discharging their duties; interference with law enforcement during civil disorder; and destruction of government property.

So you act like any of this is legitimte? LOL. What happened to FR?
Trump could have issued a pardon before he left office but failed to do so.
The DPRK ( North Korea ) is protesting this sentence to the UN as human rights violation.
Another big reason on my list to vote Trump. This is ridiculous. God be with them.
You are not just voting for Trump, the lives of dozens of J6 political prisoners depends on it!!!
“You do less time for murder.”
Yep.
You are confused. What happened is that some brave souls did their ten years, and immediately upon release picked up with the dissent right where they left off and were arrested again on a new charge.
And of course surviving the prisons and gulags for 10 years is another matter. But in old Russian Imperial and Soviet law, 10 years was the max a judge could impose.
In America now we see 17 years for leading a protest. Even if you call it a riot that is utterly abusive. And the sentences we see now of well over 100 years are a farce and proof of our authoritarian government.
Right now Trump faces 641 years in Prison. That absurdity doesn’t happen anywhere else on earth.
Trump could have pardoned everyone involved in the January 6th nonsense before he left office. Instead, he tossed the protesters under the bus.
The half-baked Kracker is a DC swamp shill.
Utterly false. See #34
Flatout traitors.
“You are confused. What happened is that some brave souls did their ten years, and immediately upon release picked up with the dissent right where they left off and were arrested again on a new charge.”
False. Go read Solzhenitsyn, a first-hand witness to the Gulag. For political prisoners imprisoned under Section 58 it was standard practice to immediately resentence them to another 10 years (and then after that to 5 years of deprivation of civil rights) immediately upon the expiration of their term, without them ever being released. Of course the Soviets would say “well we interrogated them and they were still dissidents”, but that was simply wallpapering.
I mean, the death sentence was also “technically” outlawed in the Soviet Union, but that did not stop them from giving thousands and thousands of prisoners the death penalty. They simply summarily executed them as soon as they were arrested, rather than giving them a judicial hearing where they could not be sentenced to death. Anyone who believes that what the Soviet law books said reflected the actual practice of the law in the Soviet Union was is a fool.
That is a flat out lie unsupported by the facts. Trump had his powers fully stripped away by the end of the day on January 6th. (Actually before)
On January 19th President Donald Trump ordered the Department of Justice, the Director of National Intelligence and the CIA on Tuesday to declassify and release materials related to the FBI’s Crossfire Hurricane (Spygate)
It was utterly ignored.
Now, take your Thorazine and have your soup before it gets cold.
What about Ray Epps? He was a big leader outside the Capitol Bldg. with a bullhorn encouraging protesters and others to invade the Capitol Bldg. He was organizing others whispering in their ears giving instructions. He claimed under oath before the J6 Committee that he never entered the Bldg, but vids certainly show him walking around inside. Who paid his transport and expenses to travel from Az. to DC and live for several days in DC?
Whose "plan?" Whose $$$?
“Another innocent who could have been shielded by Trump on the way out the door, but he had other priorities on his mind.”
Trump, on the way out the door, had been impeached by the House in record time and was on schedule to be tried by the Senate immediately after he left office. As it was 57 Senators, of the 67 required, voted to convict, including 7 Republican Senators.
It is very possible McConnell and others made a deal with Trump telling him if he did certain things, such as pardon the January 6 protestors as well as Julian Assange and Edward Snowden, there were more than enough GOP Senators willing to join the vote to convict. Had Trump been convicted by the Senate he would never have been able to hold federal office again. In addition, the Biden DOJ would likely have sought convictions for the same crimes he was tried for in the Senate and seeking lengthy prison terms.
The absurd thing is that Tarrio wasn’t even at the Capitol on J6.
Yet the corrupt Hunter who sold us out to Russia, China and Ukraine goes free.
Hey buggeryman. I am merely pointing out that even a despotic communist dictatorship wouldn’t formally codify a prison sentence of more than 10 years and kept the Czar’s sentence structure. The Soviets also had a constitution that was completely ignored.
The point is that even a communist dictatorship wouldn’t legally codify a 641 years sentence, or a 17 year sentence for a single protest. They might kill you in a gulag, but they didn’t brag to the world about it like DC does.
Even Bolsheviks had enough sense to hide their despotism. DC does it right out in the open and feels like they are “protecting democracy”.
