WASHINGTON — Joe Biggs, a Proud Boys leader convicted of seditious conspiracy who the government says "served as an instigator and leader" during the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, was sentenced to 17 years in federal prison on Thursday.
It is among the longest sentences in Capitol riot cases. The record is the 18-year sentence given to Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes, also convicted of seditious conspiracy, after prosecutors sought 25 years in federal prison in his case.
The government sought 33 years for Biggs, an Army veteran who sustained a head injury in Iraq and then served as a correspondent for the conspiracy website Infowars. Prosecutors argued that he was a “vocal leader and influential proponent of the group’s shift toward political violence” and used his “outsized public profile” and his military experience as he “led a revolt against the government in an effort to stop the peaceful transfer of power.”
U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly handed down Biggs' sentence. He ruled earlier in Thursday's hearing that Biggs’ tearing down of a fence that stood between police and rioters qualified him for a terrorism sentencing enhancement sought by prosecutors. Destroying the fence was a “deliberate, meaningful step” that contributed to the disruption of the electoral vote count occurring in the Capitol, Kelly said.
Biggs was convicted in May of seditious conspiracy; conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding; obstruction of an official proceeding; conspiracy to use force, intimidation or threats to prevent officers of the U.S. from discharging their duties; interference with law enforcement during civil disorder; and destruction of government property.

Out in 15 years.
You do less time for murder.
There is no parole in Federal prison..........That’s why it’s called ‘Hard Time’..................
Good thing they didn’t catch him removing a mattress tag, too.......
The Feds had asked for 33 years in prison so this is a relatively light sentence. Tarrio, the leader of the PB, was supposed to be sentenced today but his sentencing was bumped to next week.
If all goes as planned, most J6 defendants, other than those who truly engaged in violence or damage to the Capitol, will be both pardoned and financially restored.
Another innocent who could have been shielded by Trump on the way out the door, but he had other priorities on his mind.
Yet BLM rioters are winning millions in lawsuits. I just hope for these poor political J6 prisoners that we win the Whitehouse.
A little NeverMAGA glee for ya today, eh, Coronal?
The only hope that the J6 defendants get pardoned is if a Republican becomes President. I don’t know if that will ever happen again now that the Democrats have perfected the art of election theft.
When did they close the drive-ins?
Spot the not-a-fed...

I notice you've been clownposting pretty steadily lately...
The have to serve 85%. He will be an elder by then.
The judge in this case is a Trump appointee FYI.
The treatment and sentences of the January 6th protesters is the most egregious violation of justice I’ve ever seen in our nation. Are the defendants appealing these sentences? Surely a higher court will overturn these political prosecutions and sentences!
There is not a Republican other than Trump that will pardon them. And Trump is not going back in the White House even if they have to kill him to keep him out. If the people had fought him in the 2020 Coup...... But they did not. So here we are. They will steal the 2024 election like they stole the 2920 election. Because they know they can and nothing will happen to them.
If I were president I would make my first action pardoning every one of them and award each of them 10 million dollars for their persecution.
Do it in a lavish public ceremony!
In the old USSR a 10 year sentence was the maximum. It was assumed to be a death penalty crime if a person had to be imprisoned for more than 10 years.
Butch Cassidy got 18 months for stealing a horse, saddle and gun.
In the old west 2-3 years for bank robbery was the norm.
Only the most despotic nations in history have given someone 17 years for leading a protest. And it truly becomes utterly abusive and cruel and unusual when you consider the dozens of murders and billions in property damage and hundreds of buildings burned, and months of siege of the White House and Federal Court houses that was conducted by antifa and BLM.
Another Federalist Society asshole judge.
