Post Debate Poll: Trump 61, DeSantis 9; Trump 44, Biden 41

A New York Post Post – Leger poll taken after the GOP presidential debate this week shows President Trump crushing his closest primary rival, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, 61 to 9 percent while topping Joe Biden 44 to 41 percent in a general election matchup.

The poll also throws cold water on the idea that Democrat prosecutors at the federal and state level are bringing case after case against Trump in order to help him become the Republican nominee to set him up for a general election defeat. Only three percent of Democrats surveyed said they want Trump to be the 2024 GOP presidential nominee, with former Rep. Liz Cheney (WY) (16 percent) and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (11 percent) being their top choices.

The poll was conducted Wednesday night and Thursday with 1800 online respondents described as “1,800 Americans 18 years of age or older. Out of those, 534 watched the Republican Primary Debate.” The poll has a 2.3 percent margin of error. The Republican voter preference sample is 658 registered voters.

Among Republicans who watched all or part of Wednesday’s debate, 23 percent said upstart Ohio businessman Vivek Ramaswamy won, while 21 percent said Florida Governor Ron DeSantis won.

The poll result for 658 Republican voters who were asked, “Which candidate would you like to see as the Republican candidate for president in 2024?”:

Trump 61, DeSantis 9, Ramaswamy 5, Pence 5, Scott 3, Haley 2, Christie 1, Cheney 0, Hurd 0, Someone else, 2, I don’t know 14.”

Interestingly, the poll shows Trump winning the young adult vote in the GOP primary and general election. Among those 18 to 34 years-old: Trump 58 percent, Pence 6 percent, DeSantis, Ramaswamy and Someone else at 5 percent each with 12 percent saying “I don’t know.”

In the general election among those aged 18-34, Trump gets support from 48 percent to Biden’s 34 percent with 17 percent preferring someone else. Trump tops Biden among men 47 to 41 while he is tied at 41 to 41 among women.

Anyone voting for Biden has no patriotism in their being. Makes no sense to vote for a senile.. Makes no sense to vote for a crime family.

Not sure how you can say that. It’s very plain that the persecution angle is working wonders for Trump. The strategy relies on Trump being CONVICTED. If he’s nominate, but not convicted, yeah, he takes the White House.

What about after Trump is convicted ?

I'm sorry folks, but Trump will be in jail before the general election, that's why Smith had yet another Federal Grand Jury indict him in D.C.

Trump will beat the bogus charges in Florida, but the D.C. court has already convicted him, the trial is just a formality.

And the same is true for the Fulton County, GA court.

You are comparing a poll from a single small state vs. a national poll?

Our local talk show host has been saying the strategy is to get Trump nominated because Democrats think he’s the easiest to beat.

That leaves me wondering if it’s not Trump which Republican candidate is it?

Doug Burgam would be a good choice but he’s hardly on the radar.

Tim Scott isn’t registering much support.

Ramaswamy is running for a cabinet post; if he tries what he’s talking about doing the deep state will eat him alive.

DeSantis has proven to be a poor campaigner and his support among women is in the single digits.

We have some good candidates but time is running late for our country and business as usual is not going to happen.

So if not Trump, who?

“I’m sorry folks, but Trump will be in jail before the general election, that’s why Smith had yet another Federal Grand Jury indict him in D.C.”

1. If Trump is in jail due to conviction then the country is gone.

2. If one happens, will elections matter?

DeSantis isn’t a GREAT campaigner, but he’s plenty good enough. He’s been getting it from the Center and Left on one side and the withering, unrelenting, nasty attacks from Team Trump, who the people who don’t like the Center and Left believe and even adore. So it’s not like he’s organically imploding.

And the attacks from Trump are very different from the attacks from the Left, their puppets in the media and the never-Trumper “center.” Yeah, anyone’s going to have to put up with stuff like “binders of women,” the puppy-wagon, the 47% write-off, etc., and they do hurt. But coming from the base, these attacks have been deadly, and scream to me of Trump being willing to see America utterly destroyed if he’s not the nominee. And it continues the problem of him having absolutely no credibility to the center.

In that case, Trump can be sworn in at the DC jail, pardon himself, pardon all the J6 people, then take a triumphant motorcade to the White House.

It would be a fitting and bizarre end to lawless and illegitimate prosecutions.

The reason I asked is because I don’t think the Republican nominee will be facing Biden.

The Democrats have to figure out how to usher him off the stage...I think he is “running” just so Kamala doesn’t run. She’s too embarrassing but she’s a woman of color.

The optics of putting a white male, Gavin Newsom, ahead of a woman of color goes against all the Dems have been hooting about for years.

So Kamala doesn’t run and somehow Gavin will be the nominee, just as the superdelegates buried Bernie Sanders in favor of the Hildabeast.

That still won’t help DeSwampis. If he were to be selected as the GOP nominee he would come in third behind Biden and Trump write-in votes, that is if we have an honest election.
