Wealthy residents in Dem-led Bay Area city are branded NIMBYs for fighting to keep 100 homeless people from being housed in $134-a-night hotel - despite 75% voting for California Gov. Gavin Newsom progressive policies

Wealthy residents in a Democrat-led Californian city have been branded NIMBYs for fighting to keep 100 homeless people from being housed in a $134-a-night hotel.

Crowds of angry Millbrae residents packed out their local community hall on Friday to protest 'Project Homekey' proposals to house rough sleepers at the La Quinta hotel on El Camino Real, close to the city center.

While hundreds of belligerent residents continue their fight to halt the homeless housing plans, others have slammed the Dem-majority's hypocrisy for voting in liberal leaders but then pushing back on progressive policies.

Jess Hudson, who is a local resident and Commissioner at the County of San Mateo, said that their actions show NIMBYism is popular, regardless of political affiliation. It's an for the phrase 'not in my back yard.'

About 95 percent of Millbrae's homeless population are currently congregating and sleeping at the Bay Area Rapid Transit station. The city is the last stop before San Francisco Airport, hence why many homeless people end up there.

Over 74 percent of residents in San Mateo County, which includes Millbrae, voted for Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom in November 2022 - with just one quarter of all ballots voting for the Republican candidate.

n March, Newsom announced a $1billion fund to tackle homelessness, attempting to deliver housing to the hundreds of thousands of people rough sleeping in the state. In the past four years, California as spent $17.5billion on the issue.

Newsom said: 'In California, we are using every tool in our toolbox – including the largest-ever deployment of small homes in the state – to move people off the streets and into housing.

These people should learn that a future “democracy” would mean this kind of problem would go on repeatedly with no way to stop it.

The inflamed mob for “equity” or “reparations” or just “civil rights” can be the majority and the hapless, weak minority (taxpayers, people not here illegally, non persons of color, the non woke) would be overruled by the mob as part of democracy.

That was why the Founding Fathers discussed the matter at length and placed the framework for a republic in our key documents. The ignorant and easily emotionalized mob can be part of the republic but not to the extinction of the rights of the people with whom they disagree.

I believe that the Fairmont and Mark Hopkins hotels might be somehow adequate for the illegal aliens.

“Had to look up “NIMBY”.”

Here in New England we have turned NIMBY into an art form.

We make sure to scream a lot about “climate change” if any developer dares show their face.

;-)

They must be related to the residents of Martha’s Vineyard. This just proves how stupid liberals are. They truly believe Trump and the MAGA crowd are immortal and corrupt Neanderthals. They smugly put pretentious signs in their yards extolling how wonderful and virtuous they are... until their very own policies directly impact them.

Hollywood and the entertainment industry is entirely built on surface appearance and public image. Anything under the surface is seen as at best worthless, at worst a liability.

That manner of thinking has spread to the entire culture of California, perhaps farther.

And yet these folks will undoubtedly vote for Biden and
whatever state level Leftist they can drool over.
(which is to say, all of them)

Look at Los Angeles.

They wouldn’t vote a Conservative in if doomsday was
tomorrow and the only way to avoid it would be to elect
one.
