Election season is rapidly approaching. The first Republican debate is this week. The Iowa caucus is in January, and the New Hampshire primary is soon thereafter. With over a dozen declared candidates, the marathon placements are starting to take shape.
For now, don't lean too heavily on polls. First, we're too far out, and too much can happen. Second, we all know how we feel about polls. The poll showing our candidate doing well is Gospel. The poll showing our candidate faring poorly is Soros-funded dreck. As the polls change direction, so too change their designations. Rinse. Repeat.
But taking this into consideration, it is undeniable that, if all primary voting were held today, then Trump would win handily, DeSantis would come in a solid second, and both Ramaswamy and Scott will have garnered enough second-tier support to warrant vice presidential consideration. Unfortunately for whichever camp you fall into, the polling so far suggests that Trump can't lose the primary and can't win the general election.
But what should be a civil discussion among rational conservatives is turning personal and nasty — not just among candidates, but among their supporters as well. Trump-supporters are treating DeSantis-supporters like neocon sellouts, and DeSantis-supporters are treating Trump-supporters like cultish conspiracy theorists. Neither charge is merited, and the rabble-rousers on both sides would do well to cut the ad hominem attacks. Such are the tactics of leftists peddling the sexualization of children, not of principled Americans who reasonably disagree about the best path forward.

Trump shouldn’t apologize for anything. He was completely justified with his tweets and name calling. DeSantis was a complete nincompoop to enter the race going up against Trump. Apparently he lacks gifted foresight.
"Better to have an honest enemy, than a false friend." Just having an "R" at the end of the name does not make a person a friend to the Constitution, nor America. The RINO's have proven that out.
Hold your breath.
Everything you say was true and may still be. That what makes this train wreck campaign such a waste. He can probably recover and go on to do exactly as you suggest…probably. I hope he is at his core the terrific Governor we thought he was and not the inept candidate who let the GOPe corrupt him.
I know who they are and they are very annoying.
Trump is a good candidate and was an excellent POTUS.
DeSantis is an excellent Governor.
Let the men do their thing and let us vote according to merit.
Agreed.
This is like 1980, only worse. We have a walking (barely), talking (barely) disaster of a Dem in the WH, with the very survival of our nation at stake - just like in 1980, but it is worse this time. We need the Republicans to unite like they did in 1980. No, I’m not hoping for a Deep-Stater like Bush 41 to be the Veep, but I think that something can be worked out to have DeSantis be the Veep or something important in the Cabinet, with a bargain that Trump will back him in 2028. We’ve got to have 12 years of Constitutionalist, pro-American, leadership or we’ll never get our country back. In-fighting and back-stabbing will ensure that the Dems win, which will be a Class A disaster.
If the Dems “win” again, by hook or by crook (and it’ll be exactly that), then we are finished. War with China will be a certainty, as will the certain march toward Communism here, as will a CBDC that will essentially enslave the people of this country. There is no doubt that this IS the most important election of our lifetimes, and the Republicans need to circle the wagons and have all of their guns pointed outward at the Communist Dems. We cannot lose, or our nation is DONE.
The Republicans who hated Reagan most are the ones who use that line as a weapon today, while never aiming it at themselves That saying has as much oomph today as "Give me your tired, your poor." In fact BOTH lines may as well have been written in the 19th century, for all the good they do us today.
Of the two "sides" one has been demostrably worse. And that some of the handles have been proverbially pulled out of mothballs for this election cycle leads to questions I'll leave the reader to surmise.
But the handle responded to me calling it out with a very leftist like butt hurt 'lock her up' rationale.
There have been many examples of the double standard.
Ron would be worse than Pence. We can’t afford another bad choice.the clock is ticking.
This is why I was fine with Mike Pence as the VP candidate in 2016. As party insiders go, he was pretty much the best you'd ever get in that role.
“Only Trumper heads would explode at the idea of a Trump/DeSantis ticket. They would abandon Trump if he should pick RDS.”
I think the more likely result would be ultrasonic spin in an attempt to justify DJT’s change of position to themselves.
Full disclosure: I voted for Trump twice in 2016 and 2020, and intend to do the same in 2024.
That set of facts on the table, this is what I have to say:
1) The Republican Party needs to be united, or we will surely lose (likely via cheating, but shooting ourselves in the foot won’t help);
2) I believe that Donald Trump is the only Republican who can both win and set this country back on the right path.
3) Trump will not be able to fix everything, even if he knew how, because he will only have 4 years in office.
4) The deal to unify the Party in 2024 HAS TO include a deal for keeping the Party unified in 2028, with an obvious front-runner who has Trump’s endorsement. I suggest that despite DeSantis’ less than stellar campaign, his top-notch job as FL governor puts him in that position more than any other non-Trump Republican at this time.
5) BOTH Trump and DeSantis have made gratuitously unflattering remarks about each other that make them both look like little children. BOTH need to put a sock in it, BOTH need to swallow their pride a bit, and BOTH need to start ringing the alarm bells about what another 4 years o Dem control over the WH will mean - no matter which Dem it is that cheats his or her way into office. This is the essence of compromise, especially in the interest of something much larger than either person - apologizing, growing up and focusing on the TRUE enemy, the Leftist/Communist Democrats who are literally in the process of destroying this country.
This BS between different wings of the Republican Party HAS to stop, or the Dems will “win” and destroy our nation. THIS is the moment for ALL Republicans/Conservatives put aside their egos in the interest of preserving our nation. If we fail to do that, then very simply nothing else matters.
So, for God’s sake, let’s first stop with the stupid sniping from BOTH sides here on FR. If we can’t do it, unified as we should be by being conservative Americans interested in the long term future of our nation, then the task is hopeless. Start HERE AND NOW - ALL OF US!!!!! Focus on the enemy, not each other!
Well, Pence turned out to be a perfect RINO insider...but even having a turncoat like him as VP was world’s apart from having Hillary as POTUS - if that was the case, our nation would already be over, and that’s if we didn’t get into a nuclear war with the Russians.
All things considered, I’ll take a Trump/RINO winning ticket over ANY Dem ticket for the last 60 years, let alone the current crop of corrupt Communists.
The very nature of politics is compromise - NOBODY gets everything that they want, except absolute dictators (and they usually get shot or poisoned in the end). Knowing that, and knowing the disaster that is the Dem Party and its goals, we MUST unify. Egos have to be put aside, insults and perceived slights have to be moved to the back of the mind - because if we don’t, our nation is over.
Then there was the FR chant: “Y’all BETTER vote for Romney to make sure we don’t get Obama”!
Why do we think the PTB in the Democratic party will run Biden; healthy or not; again?
A “truce” ? whatever for? The UniParty neocons nee to stop attacking the USA and flyover country.
All Trump is doing is defending Americans. The UNiParty finds that offensive
Ron would be worse than Pence?
Sure. I posted in jest (post 81)
“Oh well. Maybe Trump and Pence can patch things up and give it another go in ‘24.”
I never thought anyone would or could take this seriously. But I underestimate the lack of political acuity only Trumpers have.
This has ALWAYS been Trump's mo.
But...
