And not for nothing, as a resident of the state, whenever you hear those horns, you head inland for higher ground ASAP. If those tsunami horns had been activated during a power outage (no tv, cellular, or internet) many more people would have died fleeing inland and into the fire, and the those local politicians would all be drawn and quartered alive.
The first thing they should is to take all of the electric supply underground.

That’s what I was thinking. I recall that when I worked at a resort in Wailea, the sirens sounded a couple times and people were encouraged to go upcountry.
The ones who ran into the water in this case were the smart ones.
